Clearwater Tarn, Tony Cosier's most recent collection of
poems, celebrates the rejuvenating power of nature and the strength of human endurance. The collection has
four parts: "Stone House and Barn" contains rural meditations on barns, horses and railroads in
the tradition of the poet's previous Penumbra volume, Kilmarnock. The observations in "Field
Notes" focus on nature, with a sustained account of the ice storm of January 1998. Twelve elegies in
"A Vision of Higher Things" reflect on a close friendship with Quebec poet Jack Brooks. "The
Spirit of Haida Gwaii" contemplates the stirring arrangement of mythical figures in a West Coast canoe
by renowned native Canadian artist Bill Reid. TONY COSIER is widely published in literary magazines and anthologies nationally and internationally. The author of eight volumes of poetry, three plays and Ensemble, a book of short stories, he teaches high school English in Ottawa. Clearwater Tarn is Tony's third collection of poetry with Penumbra Press. Landsinger (1989) and Kilmarnock (1994) were both shortlisted for the Lampman and Ottawa-Carleton book awards. |
