Indian Masterpieces from the Walter and Marianne Koerner Collection The Walter and Marianne Koerner Catalogue was published simultaneously with a companion volume on the H. R. MacMillan Collections in the Museum of Anthropology. Pacific Northwest Coast Indian artifacts made up about half of the total holdings of the museum, the bulk of which were purchased with the aid of Walter C. Koerner, H. R. MacMillan, and others. Dr. and Mrs. Koerner also donated their own private collection of Northwest Coast masterpieces for display in this museum. It was the promise of this gift which inspired the appropriation of a part of the federal government's 1971 centennial gift to the province to build this museum. Many of the Koerner pieces are described in this catalogue and are prominently displayed in Gallery III.
