A Ye Galleon Press 1967 limited edition reprint, this copy being number 1153 of 1522. Jewitt and a sailmaker named Thompson survived an 1803 misadventure with Chief Maquina's people on Vancouver Island. For 28 months they were kept as labouring captives. Jewitt adapted to some degree (Thompson did not like any aspect of Native life) and managed to keep a journal. They were eventually rescued and numerous versions of Jewitt's story have appeared.
