The Raven, Frog, and Bear Totem Pole

A Masterpiece of Haida Art

Josephine Humbleton
The Raven, Frog, and Bear Totem Pole: A Masterpiece of Haida Art This article is in the National Museum of Canada Bulletin No. 113, Annual Report of the Nation Museum of Canada for the Fiscal Year 1949-50.

It is about an argillite pole carved by Haida Isaac Chapman. No date is given, perhaps it was done in the early 1900's. The different figures on making up the graceful pole are described in some detail, with details about Chapman and others thrown in apparently at random. There is a black and white photo of the pole, as well as of a Charles Edenshaw pole and an argillite pipe collected in 1838.
