In spite of their importance and potential societal impact, there is currently no comprehensive source of information about vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). Cohesively integrating the state of the art in this emerging field, Vehicular Networks: From Theory to Practice elucidates many issues involved in vehicular networking, including traffic engineering, human factors studies, and novel computer science research. Divided into six broad sections, the book begins with an overview of traffic engineering issues, such as traffic monitoring and traffic flow modeling. It then introduces governmental and industrial efforts in the United States and Europe to set standards and perform field tests on the feasibility of vehicular networks. After highlighting innovative applications enabled by vehicular networks, the book discusses several networking-related issues, including routing and localization. The following section focuses on simulation, which is currently the primary method for evaluating vehicular networking systems. The final part explores the extent and impact of driver distraction with in-vehicle displays. Encompassing both introductory and advanced concepts, this guide covers the various areas that impact the design of applications for vehicular networks. It details key research challenges, offers guidance on developing future standards, and supplies valuable information on existing experimental studies.

Leadership, adaptability, value creation. These are the skills necessary for tomorrow’s managers. Allen Amason approaches the topic of strategic management with these traits in mind. Rather than simply teaching theory and research, he seeks to communicate to them the fundamental keys to how strategy works. This book is designed to help students think critically and understand fully how to strategically manage their future firms. In so doing, it will enable them to adapt and learn, even as their circumstances change; to apply sound logic and reasoning, even in new and unfamiliar settings. By conveying enduring and fundamental principles of economic and human behavior rather than simply reporting on the latest innovations, this book succeeds in preparing students to excel in the business environment over time, regardless of how it evolves.

Written by a senior clinician and educator in order to meet the needs of prospective and current educators, clinical supervisors and students of music therapy, this book provides an overview and detailed commentary about all aspects of professional and advanced education and training in music therapy. Major topics include: (1) historical perspective and review of academic standards defined by both the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), faculty qualifications, levels of practice suggested by levels of educational programming, post-graduate training and distance learning. (2) incorporating, contextualizing and extending music and clinical foundations into music therapy coursework while teaching music therapy foundations at successive levels of depth. (3) detailed suggestions for training the student in practice competencies- both practicum and internship. (4) historical commentary on how competencies for advanced practice were composed and how revised standards will play a part in the development of masters and doctoral programs in the United States. (5) analysis of the coursework in 32 graduate programs across the United States in order to suggest the current use of coursework in meeting advanced competency areas. (6) reflection on relevant learning theory, learning styles, student development phases, and application to music therapy pedagogy and evaluation. (7) information related to admissions, advisement, retention, teaching and evaluation techniques in music therapy programs. (8) review of music therapy programs in 30 countries which concludes with a discussion of common themes and issues in the development of international education and training. As we consider the ongoing challenges in the United States and throughout the world to develop curriculum that is appropriate to various degree levels and changing professional entry standards, this book will prove an important resource. With a foreword by Dr. Suzanne Hanser and appendices which include a listing and analysis of sixty years of books published in music therapy, this book is an invaluable addition to the music therapy literature.

The I 2 C or Inter-Integrated Circuit bus is a two-wire control bus for linking microcontroller and peripheral ICs. The simplicity of its unique combination of both address and data bus functions has made it a worldwide industry standard. This guidebook through the world of microcontroller-managed serial buses will enable the reader to design an I 2 C bus-based system for virtually any application. Features include: Examination of typical industrial and consumer applications which will enable the reader to design effectively in a real-world environment. Examples of modular solutions at various levels of complexity. Instruction on building bridges to other buses. Accompanying diskette containing I 2 C bus instruction software. Structured in four parts, the book covers protocol, components, applications and development tools. This comprehensive text outlines the versatility of the I 2 C bus, which has resulted in its widespread adoption in a variety of areas from telecommunications and automotive dashboards to energy management systems and medical equipment. The text combines a user-friendly style with the expertise of the author, who has been involved in the development of the I 2 C bus from its conception. Linking theory with practice, this accessible source allows both professional circuit designers and electrical and electronic engineering students rapidly to grasp the advantages of the I 2 C bus.

While feminist legal scholarship has thrived within universities and in some sectors of legal practice, it has yet to have much impact within the judiciary or on judicial thinking. Thus, while feminist legal scholarship has generated comprehensive critiques of existing legal doctrine, there has been little opportunity to test or apply feminist knowledge in practice, in decisions in individual cases. In this book, a group of feminist legal scholars put theory into practice in judgment form, by writing the 'missing' feminist judgments in key cases. The cases chosen are significant decisions in English law across a broad range of substantive areas. The cases originate from a variety of levels but are primarily opinions of the Court of Appeal or the House of Lords. In some instances they are written in a fictitious appeal, but in others they are written as an additional concurring or dissenting judgment in the original case, providing a powerful illustration of the way in which the case could have been decided differently, even at the time it was heard. Each case is accompanied by a commentary which renders the judgment accessible to a non-specialist audience. The commentary explains the original decision, its background and doctrinal significance, the issues it raises, and how the feminist judgment deals with them differently. The books also includes chapters examining the theoretical and conceptual issues raised by the process and practice of feminist judging, and by the judgments themselves, including the possibility of divergent feminist approaches to legal decision-making. From the foreword by Lady Hale 'Reading this book ought to be a chastening experience for any judge who believes himself or herself to be both true to their judicial oath and a neutral observer of the world? If lawyers and judges like me have so much to learn from reading this book, then surely other, more sceptical, lawyers and judges have even more to learn?other scholars, and not only feminists, must also be fascinated by the window it opens onto the process of judicial reasoning: not the straightforward, predetermined march from A to B of popular belief, but something altogether more complicated and uncertain. And anyone will find it a very good read.'
