Owning Your Magnificence A Spiritual Psychology was inspired by a path to enlightenment called A Course in Miracles. There are many paths to enlightenment, but from the top looking down, there is only one. I was a traditional psychologist in my twenties, however, there seemed to be little room to talk about spirituality, except to mention “a spiritual awakening” and the importance of service. I have been an Advanced Teacher of the Course for twenty-five years and made the divine decision to become a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor so I could be in private practice for twenty years. My second book, A Spiritual Emergency—The Myth of Mental Illness, will soon follow.

A woman embarks on a dazzling new phase in her life after inheriting a sprawling mansion and its vast collection of taxidermy. Pulitzer Prize finalist Lydia Millet is "one of the most acclaimed novelists of her generation" (Scott Timberg, Los Angeles Times). Salon praised her for writing that is "always flawlessly beautiful, reaching for an experience that precedes language itself." The Village Voice added, "If Kurt Vonnegut were still alive, he would be extremely jealous." This stunning new novel presents Susan Lindley, a woman adrift after her husband’s death and the dissolution of her family. Embarking on a new phase in her life after inheriting her uncle’s sprawling mansion and its vast collection of taxidermy, Susan decides to restore the neglected, moth-eaten animal mounts, tending to “the fur and feathers, the beaks, the bones and shimmering tails.” Meanwhile an equally derelict human menagerie—including an unfaithful husband and a chorus of eccentric old women—joins her in residence. In a setting both wondrous and absurd, Susan defends her legacy from freeloading relatives and explores the mansion’s unknown spaces. Funny and heartbreaking, Magnificence explores evolution and extinction, children and parenthood, loss and revelation. The result is the rapturous final act to the critically acclaimed cycle of novels that began with How the Dead Dream.

For most of us, we have very little time for brokenness, struggles, and heartaches as we sweep through with an S on our chests, leaping over life’s challenges in a single bound. The purpose of this book is to share the good news that we are more than capable of handling all that life throws our way—but first we must reclaim our power, keep our faith, and restore our inner divinity to accept ourselves as the pinnacle of God’s creation. Divinely Enough encourages women to • rediscover how to love and appreciate themselves as a divine expression of everything right and beautiful; • understand that we do not have to do anything to earn our divine right to be treated with love and respect; and • refocus on our inner being and reclaim the power we have within ourselves to have more, do more, and know that we deserve all that God has promised. This book will take the reader on a journey through • stories of women who have gone through trials and struggles and who overcame them by acknowledging their faith and inner strength; • the author’s life experiences that moved her from a place of self-degradation to self-appreciation; • self-reflective questions for the reader to examine herself in critical areas including self-esteem, self-acceptance, and self-love; and • supporting biblical references that show God’s intention for women through His Word. Alvise Cornaro (c.1484–1566) was the son of a Paduan innkeeper with presumed ties to the patrician Cornaro family of Venice. Highly ambitious, he acquired a name for himself as a businessman, architect, and patron of the arts. Critically ill around age 40 – likely with diabetes and gout – he resolved to abandon his intemperate lifestyle. The strict rules regarding food and drink that he adopted and which led to his recovery are outlined in his most famous treatise, the Vita Sobria (1558). The work, which featured prescriptions for living to 100 years – stressing healthy lifestyle, proper diet, and avoidance of excess –became an international success. This edition offers the most comprehensive and faithful version of this early modern classic ever available in English, and includes Cornaro’s Aggionta (“Addition”), translated here for the first time. An introductory essay by the late Marisa Milani offers biographical background and analysis and discusses the work’s publication history. The volume also presents letters by Cornaro’s contemporaries commenting on the treatise as well as his Eulogy, now viewed as having been written by Cornaro himself. A foreword by award-winning health journalist Greg Critser speaks to the continuing relevance of Cornaro’s fascinating and seminal work.
