Good Stuff is divided into two main parts; Part I addresses Positive Attributes and Part II, Positive Actions. The former contains chapters on Courage, Resilience, and Gratitude. The latter contains chapters on Generosity, Forgiveness, and Sacrifice. Together, the six chapters constitute a harmonious gestalt of the relational scenarios that assure enrichment of human experience. This book offers socioclinical meditations to temper Freud s view that human beings are essentially bad and whatever goodness they can muster is largely defensive. By elucidating the origins, dynamics, social pleasures, and clinical benefits of courage, resilience, gratitude, generosity, forgiveness, and sacrifice, this book sheds light on a corner of human experience that has remained inadequately understood by psychoanalysts and other mental health professionals."

This book explores an ethical value central to all mental health professions. Although "dignity" appears near the beginning of many codes of ethics, it has been largely unexamined in the professional literature. Potter Stewart famously declared about pornography that we can't define it but we know it when we see it. Likewise with dignity. This book addresses that gap.The book considers the role of dignity as an ethical dimension of practice: in individual psychotherapeutic and psychoanalytic work; in the therapeutic community; and in groups, organizations and nations. It outlines dignity in individual development and families, the role of dignity violations in the understanding and treatment of trauma, and how dignity and its violations can be a powerful force in conflict resolution. The book will also address dignity in relations to specific populations, with chapters on the African-American and the LGBT experiences. Listening, with the question of dignity in mind, offers a fresh non-pathologizing framework for the practitioner.Dignity Matters: Psychoanalytic and Psychosocial Perspectives inaugurates a conversation about the fostering or preclusion of dignity in the resolution of conflicts - from the intrapsychic to the international. This book will have wide appeal for use in graduate curricula in the mental health fields. With contributions by Salman Akhtar, Stanley Coen, M. Gerard Fromm, Donna Hicks, Dorothy Evans Holmes, Richard P. Kluft, Robert Kravis, Susan S. Levine, Eli Marcovitz, Kenneth A. Richman, and Susan C. Vaughan.

This concise and well-written book deals with six important roots of human anguish. It divides the six areas into those primarily affecting the individual and those primarily affecting others around him. Among the former are fear, greed, and guilt. Among the latter are deception, betrayal, and revenge. The book deals with each realm from descriptive, psychodynamic, sociocultural, and clinical perspectives. It provides ample literary examples and vignettes from psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. It is to help the readers enhance their empathy with these complex human experiences and to become more adept in helping their patients renounce or reduce their suffering.

If there ever was one word that could represent the essence of Freud's work, that word would be 'unconscious'. Indeed, Freud himself regarded his 1915 paper 'The Unconscious' as central to clarifying the fundamentals of his metapsychology. The paper delineates the topographic model of the mind and spells out the concepts of primary and secondary process thinking, thing and word presentations, timelessness of the unconscious, condensation and symbolism, unconscious problem solving, and the relationship between the system Ucs and repression. Examining these proposals in the light of contemporary psychoanalytic theory as well as from the perspective of current neurophysiology and ethology, nine distinguished analysts take Freud's ideas further in ways that have implications for both psychoanalytic theory and practice.

Practical, inspired, and bite-sized wisdom from renowned religious scholar Erica Brown, these daily meditations help add greater depth and purpose to your leadership. Few leaders have a plan when it comes to soul-building at work. As a result, they often find themselves spiritually or emotionally depleted, and they can lose the larger ideals that made them want to lead in the first place. Take Your Soul to Work is a daily meditational for business and nonprofit leaders looking for inspiration. Each entry focuses on a different quality, emotion, or aspiration (“on discipline,” “on compassion,” “on impermanence,” “on callousness,” “on productive narcissism”) by presenting a relevant quote, story, or question inspired by the traditions of all faiths as well as artists, poets, and business thinkers to help leaders reframe, rethink, and reset. Leaders rarely have time to reflect between the meeting, calls, and emails that eat away at the work day. With just one thought per day for the entire year, these 365 meditations will anchor, ground, and enrich corporate titans and nonprofit visionaries. Take Your Soul to Work provides spiritual nourishment and encourages leaders to steer their organizations with honesty, grace, and courage—and experience transcendence in the process.
