Solche Personalentwicklungsmaßnahmen sind zumeist auf die Linienorganisation zugeschnitten und können die individuelle Personalführung der Projektverantwortlichen sowohl unterstützen als auch behindern. Auf der Basis von 28 Experteninterviews mit Verantwortlichen in IT-Projekten wurde eine Typologie der projektbezogenen Personalsteuerung entwickelt. Durch die Unterscheidung verschiedener Typen, z. B. dem Typ „Personalsteuerung als ambivalente Ausnahmesituation“ oder „Professionalisierte Personalsteuerung“, lassen sich charakteristische Konstellationen und Problemfelder der Personalsteuerung identifizieren sowie situationsadäquate Problemlösungen ableiten.
