Model Engineering for Simulation provides a systematic introduction to the implementation of generic, normalized and quantifiable modeling and simulation using DEVS formalism. It describes key technologies relating to model lifecycle management, including model description languages, complexity analysis, model management, service-oriented model composition, quantitative measurement of model credibility, and model validation and verification. The book clearly demonstrates how to construct computationally efficient, object-oriented simulations of DEVS models on parallel and distributed environments. Guides systems and control engineers in the practical creation and delivery of simulation models using DEVS formalism Provides practical methods to improve credibility of models and manage the model lifecycle Helps readers gain an overall understanding of model lifecycle management and analysis Supported by an online ancillary package that includes an instructors and student solutions manual

Five years on from its adoption in 1997 by the Object Management Group (OMG), the Uni?ed Modeling Language is the de facto standard for creating - agrammatic models of software systems. More than 100 books have been written about UML, and it is taught to students throughout the world. The de?nition of UML version 2 is well under way, and should be largely completed within the year. This will not only improve and enhance UML itself, including standard facilities for diagram interchange, but also make it fully integrated with other modeling technologies from the OMG, such as Meta-Object Facility (MOF) and XML Metadata Interchange (XMI). The Object Constraint Language, which has become an important vehicle for communicating detailed insights between UML researchers and practitioners, will have a much expanded speci?cation and be better integrated with the UML. The popularity of UML signi?es the possibility of a shift of immense prop- tions in the practice of software development, at least comparable to the shift from the use of assembly language to “third-generation” or “high-level” p- gramming languages. We dream of describing the behavior of software systems in terms of models, closely related to the needs of the enterprise being served, and being able to routinely translate these models automatically into executing p- grams on distributed computing systems. The OMG is promoting Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) as a signi?cant step towards this vision, and the MDA c- cept has received considerable support within the IT industry.

Written by an experienced engineer, this new primer textbook covers all the basic techniques of model engineering: understanding engineering drawings; setting up a workshop; buying materials; marking out; sawing; filing; bending & forming metals; drilling & boring holes. The book includes a review of the properties and characteristics of engineering materials and describes the hardening of carbon steel for cutting tools in the home workshop. Sources of information for model engineers are described together with the principal types of activity and common modelling scales. Points for consideration when buying a lathe are covered, plus how it should be set up and operated. Also included is information on the preparation and sharpening of lathe tools and their use for the basic turning processes. A major chapter is dedicated to the adaptation of the lathe for milling and boring, and the use of the commonest types of milling cutter. Profusely illustrated with line drawings and photographs, this is a comprehensive guide aimed at students and practical people with little experience of working with metal and wishing to embark on this fascinating hobby.

This book constitutes a collection of the best papers selected from 9 workshops and 2 symposia held in conjunction with MODELS 2009, the 12 International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems, in Denver, CO, USA, in October 2009. The first two sections contain selected papers from the Doctoral Symposium and the Educational Symposium, respectively. The other contributions are organized according to the workshops at which they were presented: 2nd International Workshop on Model Based Architecting and Construction of Embedded Systems (ACES-MB'09); 14th International Workshop on Aspect-Oriented Modeling (AOM); [email protected] ([email protected]); Model-driven Engineering, Verification, and Validation: Integrating Verification and Validation in MDE (MoDeVVa09); Models and Evolution (MoDSE-MCCM); Third International Workshop on Multi-Paradigm Modeling (MPM09); The Pragmatics of OCL and Other Textual Specification Languages (OCL); 2nd International Workshop on Non-Functional System Properties in Domain Specific Modeling Languages (NFPinDSML); and 2nd Workshop on Transformation and Weaving OWL Ontologies and MDE/MDA (TWOMDE2009). Each section includes a summary of the workshop.

Defining a formal domain ontology is considered a useful, not to say necessary step in almost every software project. This is because software deals with ideas rather than with self-evident physical artefacts. However, this development step is hardly ever done, as ontologies rely on well-defined and semantically powerful AI concepts such as description logics or rule-based systems, and most software engineers are unfamiliar with these. This book fills this gap by covering the subject of MDA application for ontology development on the Semantic Web. The writing is technical yet clear, and is illustrated with examples. The book is supported by a website.
