Principles and Practices An Integrated Approach to Engineering Graphics and AutoCAD 2018 combines an introduction to AutoCAD 2018 with a comprehensive coverage of engineering graphics principles. By adopting this textbook, you will no longer need to adopt separate CAD and engineering graphics books for your course. Not only will this unified approach give your course a smoother flow, your students will also save money on their textbooks. What's more, the tutorial exercises in this text have been expanded to cover the performance tasks found on the AutoCAD 2018 Certified User Examination. The primary goal of Principles and Practices An Integrated Approach to Engineering Graphics and AutoCAD 2018 is to introduce the aspects of engineering graphics with the use of modern Computer Aided Design/Drafting software - AutoCAD 2018. This text is intended to be used as a training guide for students and professionals. The chapters in the text proceed in a pedagogical fashion to guide you from constructing basic shapes to making complete sets of engineering drawings. This text takes a hands-on, exercise-intensive approach to all the important concepts of Engineering Graphics, as well as in depth discussions of CAD techniques. This textbook contains a series of thirteen chapters, with detailed step-by-step tutorial-style lessons designed to introduce beginning CAD users to the graphic language used in all branches of technical industry. The CAD techniques and concepts discussed in the text are also designed to serve as the foundation to the more advanced parametric feature-based CAD packages, such as Autodesk Inventor. After completing this text your students will be prepared to pass the AutoCAD Certified User Examination. Certified User Reference Guides located at the front of the book and in each chapter show where these performance tasks are covered.

This book intended for shop use tries to familiarize the reader with the peculiari ties of a hardening method which due to its many advantages is now in use, many shops. A general knowledge of the principles of hardening and heat treating is presumed. Introduction 1. The name of the process. Flame hardening is a method derived from the old quench hardening and is used for the surface hardening of heat treatable steels. Flame hardening is so named in analogy to flame cutting as the use of a flame is a distinctive feature of this process as opposed to the use of a furnace. 2. Characteristics of flame hardening. In flame hardening the area to be 6 hardened is heated with a burner of large heat capacity (approx. 0.5 · 10 kcaljhr/ meter of flame lengths or 50,000 BTUfhr/inch of flame length) supplied with a mixture of fuel gas and oxygen. The hardening temperature is thus reached in so short a time at the surface that a heat jam is created, that is, more heat is supplied to the surface than can be dissipated to the interior of the workpiece. As the querr ehing takes place immediately after the heating the penetration of the heat to greater depth is prevented and only the outer layer subject to wear is hardened. The core of the workpiece remains unaffected by this heat treatment in cantrast to the other hardening methods where the entire piece is through heated in a furnace.

This is the eBook of the printed book and may not include any media, website access codes, or print supplements that may come packaged with the bound book. Everything students need to learn about civil drafting in a single volume. This text provides complete coverage of the design and drafting principles and practice used in the civil drafting field, and a working knowledge of the basic topics of mapping–in a workbook format. Created with input from civil engineering industry professionals and educators and content-tested in the classroom, Civil Drafting Technology is a unique, comprehensive guide to civil drafting in a clear workbook approach. Designed with the goal of providing a foundation of work done by civil engineering companies (associated drawings, skills, and terminology) and a broad education in the civil drafting field, the book acquaints students with the civil drafting discipline, mapping, computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), surveying, locations, distances, angles, directions, contour lines, site plans, horizontal alignments, profiles, earthwork, detail drawings, and geographic information system (GIS). Most of the drawings and maps are generated by specialized CADD software, and a variety of data collected using electronic surveying techniques. The book’s 14 chapters each deal with a specific subject area and provide realistic examples, illustrations, review questions, and problems. The new edition is substantially revised with a number of updates and improvements.
