Aus diesem Grund spielen die digitalen Methoden und Werkzeuge der Digitalen Fabrik bei der Einführung von Industrie 4.0-Ansätzen eine entscheidende Rolle. Diese Arbeit widmet sich deshalb der Frage, welche notwendige Weiterentwicklung der Methoden und Werkzeuge der Digitalen Fabrik es geben muss, um zukünftig Industrie-4.0-fähige Produktionssysteme in der Smart Factory anhand von Praxisbeispielen planen und betreiben zu können. Dazu muss zuerst ein grundlegendes Verständnis für die Digitale Fabrik geschaffen werden. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit soll der Frage nachgegangen werden, welche unterschiedlichen Definitionen bzgl. des Begriffes der Digitalen Fabrik existieren. Anhand einer wissenschaftlichen, systematischen Literaturrecherche wird der Forschungsstand der Digitalen Fabrik aufgezeigt, um einen vollständigen Überblick über das Konzept der Digitalen Fabrik zu erhalten. Anhand der einschlägigen Literatur werden die Zusammenhänge bzw. Unterschiede der Begriffe „Digitale Fabrik“, „Industrie 4.0“ und der „Smart Factory“ erläutert und voneinander abgegrenzt. Damit soll ein Beitrag zur begrifflichen und konzeptionellen Übersichtlichkeit dieser Begriffe geleistet werden. Zu diesem Zweck wird die einschlägige Literatur zu Industrie 4.0 und Smart Factory bearbeitet. Speziell setzt sich die Arbeit mit den verschiedenen industriellen Revolutionen auseinander und stellt diese anhand geeigneter Kriterien einander tabellarisch gegenüber. Daran anschließend wird zur Erörterung der Nutzenpotenziale von Industrie 4.0 übergegangen. Die Enabler von Industrie 4.0: Cloud Computing, Big Data, Cyber-physische Systeme und Internet der Dinge und Dienste werden jeweils erklärt, an Praxisbeispielen veranschaulicht und anschließend im Hinblick auf den Forschungsstand kritisch gewürdigt. Der Fokus liegt auf den Möglichkeiten, welche die Digitale Fabrik in Bezug auf die Industrie 4.0 bereit hält bzw. bereit halten kann. Es sollen die Flexibilität und die Vernetzung durch den gezielten Einsatz Industrie 4.0-fähiger Methoden und Werkzeuge entscheidend verbessert werden.
