From world-renowned Brazilian writer Chico Buarque comes a stylish, imaginative tale of love, loss, and longing, played out across multiple generations of one Brazilian family. At once jubilant and painfully nostalgic, playful and devastatingly urgent, Spilt Milk cements Chico Buarque’s reputation as a masterful storyteller. As Eulálio Assumpção lies dying in a Brazilian public hospital, his daughter and the attending nurses are treated—whether they like it or not—to his last, rambling monologue. Ribald, hectoring, and occasionally delusional, Eulálio reflects on his past, present, and future—on his privileged, plantation-owning family; his father’s philandering with beautiful French whores; his own half-hearted career as a weapons dealer; the eventual decline of the family fortune; and his passionate courtship of the wife who would later abandon him. As Eulálio wanders the sinuous twists and turns of his own fragmented memories, Buarque conjures up a brilliantly evocative portrait of a man’s life and love, set in the broad sweep of vivid Brazilian history.

Based on a true story, Brooke Nolan is a battered child who makes an anonymous phone call about the escalating brutality in her home. When Social Services jeopardize her safety, condemning her to keep her father's secret, it's a glass of spilled milk at the dinner table that forces her to speak about the cruelty she's been hiding. Biography. Spilt Milk is the story of Dr Len Lotzof and how his ancestry and the adopted land of his parents shaped his attitude to life and distaste for the oppressive and racist hatred that prevailed in South Africa. The cost of this book is $35 plus $8 postage. The love and care of his black Nanny whom he adored, and his close association with the Africans employed by his father on his farms, initiated his empathy with the indigenous people. He exposes the lies of the white majority and the dangers of milk as a preferred food, in a meld of religion, medical attitude, and acute political observation, culminating in his immigration to Australia Len Lotzof was born in South Africa in 1920. He died in Australia in 1997, the year the court decided, in Bonello v Lotzof, that he was not in breach of his duty of care when he vaccinated a child with the triple antigen pertussis vacine, and was not negligent. His pioneering work on food intolerance and allergy helped pave the way for current treatment. Co-writer Maureen Nathan is a pharmacist and authority on clinical nutrition using vitaminds, minerals and enzymes, building on the knowledge of her father, Len Lotzof.
