Selected as the #1 book in diet/exercise for 2015 by USA Best Book Awards. We start out with the best intentions. We're going to exercise more and get in shape! Then five days a week at the gym turns into two... then becomes none. We hit the snooze button and skip the morning run. We really do want to be healthy and fit, but we're over whelmed and overextended—and exercise feels like another chore to complete. Is it any wonder we don't stick with it? Behavior expert Michelle Segar has devoted her career to the science of motivation. In No Sweat, she reveals that while "better health" or "weight loss" sound like strong incentives, human beings are hardwired to choose immediate gratification over delayed benefits. In other words, we're not going to exercise unless it makes us happy right now. So what's the solution? To achieve lasting fitness, we have to change our minds—before we can change our bodies. In No Sweat, Segar shows us how. Translating twenty years of research on exercise and motivation into a simple four-point program, she helps readers broaden their definition of exercise, find pleasure in physical activity, and discover realistic ways to fit it into their lives. Activities we enjoy, we repeat—making this evidence-based system more sustainable in the long run than a regimen of intense workouts. Even if we don't sweat, we really benefit. The success of the clients Segar has coached testifies to the power of her program. Their stories punctuate the book, entertaining and emboldening readers to break the cycle of exercise failure once and for all. Complete with worksheets, tips, and techniques, getting in shape has never been so easy—or so much fun. "Sweat." It took a lot of this sweat and time for the author to develop this plan to get her life back, to recover from being addicted to the addicts in her life. Millions of us know the chaos that occurs in the daily lives of those who love addicts and alcoholics. Do we know fear, frustration, anxiety, distraction, depression? These become our lives. Focus? What does that even mean? The author, who has had addicts in her life, most of her life, moved into crisis mode when she discovered that her teenage son was addicted to prescription drugs along with alcohol and street drugs. Hers is a story of discovery and recovery. The plan that worked for her, as she says "to get about 85% of my life back" is a simple plan. This plan is her contribution to hope, peace, and serenity for those who live in the midst of this chaos called addiction. Denise Krochta grew up duing the 50's and 60's on the East coast of the US. She has a BA degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, in foreign languages. After college, her career in International Business took her to places around the globe. Travelling, meeting and learning about people and their values and traditions, have since been an integral part of her life. Denise is married and has two grown sons. She and her husband live in Florida with their energetic boxer pup. www.denisekrochta.com

Now frequently anthologized, Zora Neale Hurston's short story "Sweat" was first published in Firell, a legendary literary magazine of the Harlem Renaissance, whose sole issue appeared in November 1926. Among contributions by Gwendolyn Bennett, Countee Cullen, Langston Hughes, and Wallace Thurman, "Sweat" stood out both for its artistic accomplishment and its exploration of rural Southern black life. In "Sweat" Hurston claimed the voice that animates her mature fiction, notably the 1937 novel Their Eyes Were Watching God; the themes of marital conflict and the development of spiritual consciousness were introduced as well. "Sweat" exemplifies Hurston's lifelong concern with women's relation to language and the literary possibilities of black vernacular. This casebook for the story includes an introduction by the editor, a chronology of the author's life, the authoritative text of "Sweat," and a second story, "The Gilded Six-Bits." Published in 1932, this second story was written after Hurston had spent years conducting fieldwork in the Southern United States. The volume also includes Hurston's groundbreaking 1934 essay, "Characteristics of Negro Expression," and excerpts from her autobiography, Dust Tracks on a Road. An article by folklorist Roger Abrahams provides additional cultural contexts for the story, as do selected blues and spirituals. Critical commentary comes from Alice Walker, who led the recovery of Hurston's work in the 1970s, Robert Hemenway, Henry Louis Gates, Gayl Jones, John Lowe, Kathryn Seidel, and Mary Helen Washington.

"Hey Budgie, do you want to travel around south-east Asia with me?" "Sure!" One word. Just one. Even saying "I do" when getting married gives you the chance of bailing out halfway through your answer. No second chances here though, I was well and truly up the creek. And never mind the paddle, boys, I didn't even have a canoe! Without knowing which countries we were going to (not that it would have made much difference), I was about to embark on five months worth of pain, misery, excitement, enjoyment, extreme cold, extreme heat, jungles, mountains, deserts, elephants and camels. And complaining. LOTS of complaining! A constant stream of whining, moaning and whinging, performed almost exclusively by myself, and all carefully documented within SWEAT. Still, that's what being an ambassador for the western world is all about. Isn't it? Truly a 'once in a lifetime' experience!
