Software Systems Architecture, Second Edition is a highly regarded, practitioner-oriented guide to designing and implementing effective architectures for information systems. It is both a readily accessible introduction to software architecture and an invaluable handbook of well-established best practices. With this book you will learn how to Design and communicate an architecture that reflects and balances the different needs of its stakeholders Focus on architecturally significant aspects of design, including frequently overlooked areas such as performance, resilience, and location Use scenarios and patterns to drive the creation and validation of your architecture Document your architecture as a set of related views Reflecting new standards and developments in the field, this new edition extends and updates much of the content, and Adds a “system context viewpoint” that documents the system's interactions with its environment Expands the discussion of architectural principles, showing how they can be used to provide traceability and rationale for architectural decisions Explains how agile development and architecture can work together Positions requirements and architecture activities in the project context Presents a new lightweight method for architectural validation Whether you are an aspiring or practicing software architect, you will find yourself referring repeatedly to the practical advice in this book throughout the lifecycle of your projects. Modern-day projects require software and systems engineers to work together in realizing architectures of large and complex software-intensive systems. To date, the two have used their own tools and methods to deal with similar issues when it comes to the requirements, design, testing, maintenance, and evolution of these architectures. Software and Systems Architecture in Action explores practices that can be helpful in the development of architectures of large-scale systems in which software is a major component. Examining the synergies that exist between the disciplines of software and systems engineering, it presents concepts, techniques, and methods for creating and documenting architectures. The book describes an approach to architecture design that is driven from systemic quality attributes determined from both the business and technical goals of the system, rather than just its functional requirements. This architecture-centric design approach utilizes analytically derived patterns and tactics for quality attributes that inform the architect’s design choices and help shape the architecture of a given system. The book includes coverage of techniques used to assess the impact of architecture-centric design on the structural complexity of a system. After reading the book, you will understand how to create architectures of systems and assess their ability to meet the business goals of your organization. Ideal for anyone involved with large and complex software-intensive systems, the book details powerful methods for engaging the software and systems engineers on your team. The book is also suitable for use in undergraduate and graduate-level courses on software and systems architecture as it exposes students to the concepts and techniques used to create and manage architectures of software-intensive systems.

This comprehensive textbook provides a broad and in-depth overview of embedded systems architecture for engineering students and embedded systems professionals. The book is well-suited for undergraduate embedded systems courses in electronics/electrical engineering and engineering technology (EET) departments in universities and colleges, and for corporate training of employees. The book is a readable and practical guide covering embedded hardware, firmware, and applications. It clarifies all concepts with references to current embedded technology as it exists in the industry today, including many diagrams and applicable computer code. Among the topics covered in detail are: hardware components, including processors, memory, buses, and I/O system software, including device drivers and operating systems use of assembly language and high-level languages such as C and Java interfacing and networking case studies of real-world embedded designs applicable standards grouped by system application The CD-ROM accompanying the text contains source code for the design examples and numerous design tools useful to both students and professionals. A detailed laboratory manual suitable for a lab course in embedded systems design is also provided. Ancillaries also include a solutions manual and technical slides. * without a doubt the most accessible, comprehensive yet comprehensible book on embedded systems ever written! * leading companies and universities have been involved in the development of the content * an instant classic!

On behalf of the program and organizing committee members of this conference, we th are pleased to present you with the proceedings of the 12 Asia-Pacific Computer Systems Architecture Conference (ACSAC 2007), which was hosted in Seoul, Korea on August 23-25, 2007. This conference has traditionally been a forum for leading researchers in the Asian, American and Oceanian regions to share recent progress and the latest results in both architectural and system issues. In the past few years the c- ference has become more international in the sense that the geographic origin of p- ticipants has become broader to include researchers from all around the world, incl- ing Europe and the Middle East. This year, we received 92 paper submissions. Each submission was reviewed by at least three primary reviewers along with up to three secondary reviewers. The total number of completed reviews reached 333, giving each submission 3.6 reviews on average. All the reviews were carefully examined during the paper selection process, and finally 26 papers were accepted, resulting in an acceptance rate of about 28%. The selected papers encompass a wide range of topics, with much emphasis on hardware and software techniques for state-of-the-art multicore and multithreaded architectures.

On behalf of all of the people involved in the program selection, the program committee members as well as numerous other reviewers, we are both relieved and pleased to present you with the proceedings of the 2006 Asia-Pacific Computer Systems Architecture Conference (ACSAC 2006), which is being hosted in Shanghai on September 6–8, 2006. This is the 11th in a series of conferences, which started life in Australia, as the computer architecture component of the Australian Computer Science Week. In 1999 it ventured away from its roots for the first time, and the fourth Australasian Computer Architecture Conference was held in the beautiful city of Sails (Auckland, New Zealand). Perhaps it was because of a lack of any other computer architecture conference in Asia or just the attraction of traveling to the Southern Hemisphere but the conference became increasingly international during the subsequent three years and also changed its name to include Computer Systems Architecture, reflecting more the scope of the conference, which embraces both architectural and systems issues. In 2003, the conference again ventured offshore to reflect its constituency and since then has been held in Japan in the beautiful city of Aizu-Wakamatsu, followed by Beijing and Singapore. This year it again returns to China and next year will move to Korea for the first time, where it will be organized by the Korea University.
