"The river was in God's hands, the cows in ours." So passed the days on Indian Farm, a dairy operation on 700 acres of rich Illinois bottomland. In this collection, Alan Guebert and his daughter-editor Mary Grace Foxwell recall Guebert's years on the land working as part of that all-consuming collaborative effort known as the family farm. Here are Guebert's tireless parents, measuring the year not in months but in seasons for sewing, haying, and doing the books; Jackie the farmhand, needing ninety minutes to do sixty minutes' work and cussing the entire time; Hoard the dairyman, sore fingers wrapped in electrician's tape, sharing wine and the prettiest Christmas tree ever; and the unflappable Uncle Honey, spreading mayhem via mistreated machinery, flipped wagons, and the careless union of diesel fuel and fire. Guebert's heartfelt and humorous reminiscences depict the hard labor and simple pleasures to be found in ennobling work, and show that in life, as in farming, Uncle Honey had it right with his succinct philosophy for overcoming adversity: "the secret's not to stop." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DooGQqUlXI4&index=1&list=FLPxtuez-lmHxi5zpooYEnBg

The Land of Milk and Honey ?????? A Journey of God's Amazing Grace ???????? A common trait of those walking down the back side of the mountain of life is a willingness to reflect back on the course of life. Many who were born into a Christian home know what it is to be touched at an early age by Gods love, only to drift away from the faith, falling prey to the temptations of this materialistic world. The Land of Milk and Honey is the memoir of such a young man, who had always been a free-spirited risk taker. He knew that it was neither rebellion nor anger that drove him, but a relentless desire for moremore success, more independence, more of the good life. This is the story of his journey, one that would take him west from a comfortable home in Hong Kong into a crowded tenement in New York Citys Chinatown, on to the sprawling campuses of prestigious universities, and finally to the executive suite of one of the largest financial institutions on Wall Street. It is also a story of spiritual transformation, one that would require a series of divine interventions to bring him back to the God he loved so much. It would be in China that he finally embraced the true purpose of his life. ?????????????????????? ??,?????????,??????????,???????????????????? ??,????????????????????????????????????????,?????????,???????,????????????,????????? ?????????? ???,??????????????????,???????????? ???????????????,??????????????,????????????,??????????????????????? ??????,?????????????????????????,?????????????????????,???????????,??????,????????????????,???????????? ???????????????????? ????????,????????????????,?????????????????????????????,?????????????????????,?????????????????????? https://pan.baidu.com/s/1kVBsFtl

Millions of people emigrate every year in search of better economic and social opportunities. Anecdotal evidence suggests that emigrants may have over-optimistic expectations about the incomes they can earn abroad, resulting in excessive migration pressure, and in disappointment among those who do migrate. Yet there is almost no statistical evidence on how accurately these emigrants predict the incomes that they will earn working abroad. In this paper the authors combine a natural emigration experiment with unique survey data on would-be emigrants' probabilistic expectations about employment and incomes in the migration destination. Their procedure enables them to obtain moments and quantiles of the subjective distribution of expected earnings in the destination country. The authors find a significant underestimation of both unconditional and conditional labor earnings at all points in the distribution. This underestimation appears driven in part by potential migrants placing too much weight on the negative employment experiences of some migrants, and by inaccurate information flows from extended family, who may be trying to moderate remittance demands by understating incomes.

In Exodus 3:33, the Jews searched for the land of milk and honey, as mentioned by the Lord. Silicon Valley began as a caravan with start-up companies wandering, looking for success, which became companies and, in time, grew into giants in their industry. How can a valley with the vision to create technology become myopic for some that failed to change with the evolution of technology? Silicon Valley began in the midsixties with companies like Memorex and Fairchild Camera that grew and fostered trail blazers like Lockheed, General Dynamics, Hughes, Rockwell, Litton, Varian, and Motorola with startups like Intel, AMD, and National Semiconductor—all chasing the thought of great profits with no vision of what would it cost to get there. These were events that were witnessed by Joe Rios, a senior buyer for many Silicon Valley companies. Technology was developed over time and, by February 1999, with great expectations, created a frenzy to capture an elusive prize. It was a time when technologies converged, creating a potential for profit and an opportunity to seize market share from competitors. Only the quick and the resourceful would win the prize, and it was like the Oklahoma land rush; they saddled up, gathered the necessary materials and employees, and rode off toward a point on the horizon. Along the way, there were red flags, but they were ignored, while focusing on the treasure, not the path they were taking.
