A young hunter must confront the value of life as he faces the loss of his grandfather. For John Borne's family, hunting has nothing to do with sport or manliness. It's a matter of survival. Every fall John and his grandfather go off into the woods to shoot the deer that puts meat on the table over the long Minnesota winter. But this year John's grandfather is dying, and John must hunt alone. John tracks a doe for two days, but as he closes in on his prey, he realizes he cannot shoot her. For John, the hunt is no longer about killing, but about life.

Sam doesn't have a business card. Nothing that says Samuel W. Callahan, Political Tracker, Esq. Instead, he gets paid to hide in crowds, following candidates on the campaign trail to record their every misstep, public and private. It's something Sam's oddly good at since he grew up on the streets. And it's not like he has anyone waiting for him at home. After a life spent in and out of foster care, Sam isn't very good at getting close to people, or letting people get close to him. He just needs enough money to finish up at Georgetown Law and find a decent job so he can finally stop running. But when Sam witnesses something that could destroy a rising political star, he has no choice but to run. In the line of fire, Sam must outrun the memories of his past if he wants to have any hope of outrunning an assassin's bullets. * Now in development for TV series "A gritty, compelling and altogether engrossing novel that reads as if ripped from the headlines. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Chad Zunker is the real deal." -- Christopher Reich, New York Times Bestselling Author of Numbered Account and Rules of Deception "Good Will Hunting meets The Bourne Identity." -- Fred Burton, New York Times Bestselling Author of Under Fire

Tom Fuller—a scrupulously honest fellow, a person of extraordinary physical strength, and owner of a savage horse, Rusty, that he alone was able to tame—is generally regarded as a half-wit. He has been summarily fired from every job he has ever had and even comes to regard himself as a failure. He makes one more try when he is hired on as a blacksmith’s assistant by Boston Charlie. Finally here is a job that Tom can perform successfully, and his spirit soars. Oliver Champion, who stops at the smithy to have his wagon horses newly shod, is impressed by Tom’s ability. Champion also recognizes Tom as the son of the late Washington Fuller, a renowned gunfighter. Boston Charlie, far from being impressed by this revelation, is outraged and fires Tom, insisting that he leave at once. Champion takes this newfound opportunity to propose that Tom, who in addition to his physical strength is also an excellent shot, should become his bodyguard. Not having any alternative, Tom accepts the offer. It is obviously a decision made in haste, as Tom soon learns that Champion is new to the West, that he is an escaped convict from a prison in the East, and that he has come all this way in pursuit of a master criminal, Henry Plank, the man actually responsible for the robbery for which Champion was imprisoned. Now Champion wants Tom to lead him through unfamiliar country to get his revenge.

Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: 2,0, University of Cologne (Philosophisches Seminar), course: In the Wake of First Contact: Australian Postcolonial Narrative, language: English, abstract: This term paper deals with the film "The Tracker" and will focus on the representation of the black tracker role as a subversive person and character and not as a victim. The film was produced and directed by Rolf de Heer in 2002. It is set in 1922 in the Australian outback where three policemen follow their chained aboriginal tracker. He is not presented as a victim but as a suppressed black man who tricks the white men. The man uses his tracking abilities to find the man who apparently raped a white woman who the policemen thus want to capture and execute. The names of the men refer to their characters and not their names. There is the Fanatic, the Follower, the Veteran and the Fugitive. The film takes a look at a fictional tracker’s everyday working life and is based on Aboriginal tracking skills, which they learn from a very early age. Particular information about Trackers will be given further on. There are many reasons to deal with the film and the topic; in the first place it recaptures how Aboriginal people were used by the white Australian government. The topic of the film is also essential for the Australian population and the Aboriginal people, since the British settled down in Australia in 1788. The indigenous people were not always treated in a humanitarian manner. The first contact between black and white people was in the beginning sometimes peaceful, as the story of Bennelong shows. Bennelong was “the first Aboriginal [man who was] introduced to [the] English culture”. Nevertheless, the first contact between the settlers and the Aboriginal were also marked by brutality and repression, “physical and cultural violence’’. The paper will also deal with the concepts of Mimicry and Primitive, since these are important effects of the Colonization. Likewise, they play a role for the black tracker character in the film, which will be demonstrated further in the paper. Also, it will show the contrasts and similarities in clothing between the tracker and the officers, which will give evidence for mimicry. Furthermore, the paper will point out what trackers do and the importance of tracking in the aboriginal culture. Trackers are of huge importance in the aboriginal culture. Also it gives an outlook into their culture and living.

He sought justice—with a lie Nick Baron knows it was wrong to buy trust with a falsehood, but there was no other way. His reputation as the most dangerous bounty hunter west of the Rockies terrified even decent folks, not just the outlaws he hunted. So he sure as hell wasn't about to let a spitfire fugitive from a sporting house know he wasn't the US Marshal he claimed to be—no matter how appealing she was. Especially when she holds the key to his best friend's murder. And particularly when she'd not only shot him—but saved his life right after! Things with Ellie Watson could get complicated.
