"We have needed a book like Dr. Horan's for 30 years, ever since radical surgery at Johns Hopkins and radiation at Stanford were revived without scientific proof of life extension. Using his liberal arts education to establish a consilient science of prostate cancer, Dr. Horan takes on the entire culture of over-diagnosis and over-treatment in language the public (the taxpayer) can understand. This book is timely as we face up to the fact that we cannot pay for every legacy code under Medicaid /Medicare but must finally choose cancer treatments, or non-treatments, that prolong quality adjusted life rather than enrich the medical-industrial complex." Tony Coelho Chairperson for the Partnership to Improve Patient Care Primary author and sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act "As a physician and physiologist, I think Anthony Horan is on the right side of what should not even be a controversy." Roger Guillemin, M.D., Ph.D. Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine In 1973, we urologists had prostate cancer about right, no screening, no radiation, and no radical surgery. All cancers discovered were assumed to be metastatic from the get-go. If any treatment was necessary, it was systemic hormone deprivation. But, ten years later (1983-1987) radical surgery was revived without new evidence; ultrasound probes were miniaturized to fit in the rectum; and the PSA blood test was described as capable of finding new cancers but as lacking the specificity required for screening. The whole world screened anyway. Money poured into U.S. hospitals and faculty practice plans. Post-radical surgery deaths (2600) peaked in 1992. By the autumn of 2011, two reports had showed that radical surgery did not lengthen cancer specific life compared to nothing. PSA screening was found by the Preventive Task Force of the U.S. Federal government to cause more harm than good. This book reinforces their statement. Anthony H. Horan, M.D., a graduate of Dartmouth College, received his medical degree from Columbia's College of Physicians and Surgeons. He did his internship in internal medicine and one year of general surgical residency at St. Luke's Hospital in New York. After two years in the Air Force as a general surgeon, Horan returned to New York for a Urology Residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He left New York to become Associate Professor of Surgery at Marshall University and the Veterans Administration. Presently, he is in private practice in Delano, California.

PROSTATE PROBLEMS? HIGH PSA? READY TO ESCAPE THE MAZE OF PROSTATE TREATMENTS? GIVE THE ROLLER REGIMEN PROGRAM 28 DAYS! Prostate dis-ease brings about a maze of hazy information and brutal treatments—cutting, biopsies, chemotherapy, cryosurgery, radiation, and the list goes on! Why not take the 28-day route to good health and escape the potential side effects of impotency and incontinence? After my initial visit and first biopsy, the urologist determined I had Stage 1 prostate cancer and a PSA of 5.0. I was scheduled for a re-examination in 6 weeks with prostate surgery to follow immediately afterward. However, I was haunted by what I had heard from other men who had gone through the surgeries and other treatments—"Impotency! Incontinence!" Luckily, I was married to a tenacious woman who said, "There has to be another solution, we can't just give up, roll over and let them do this to you—and to US!" We had only been married for 6 years, still newlyweds. Our minds screamed—THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER WAY! And, gentlemen, I am here to tell you—THERE IS! After researching and deciding against further medical treatments, we developed a completely non-invasive 28-day program which offers no side effects—The Roller Regimen Program. It entails a healthy, real-food diet, a few inexpensive over-the-counter supplements, and simple acupressure point stimulation (on the hand). It encompasses a menu plan, grocery lists, and even recipes. It not only lowered my PSA four times (by as much as 60% in 28 days), but my initial Stage 1 prostate cancer was eliminated with no reoccurrence after 10 years. 28 days VERSUS MY LIFE and OUR SEX LIFE, for us the decision was easy! If you are ready to escape the maze, give the Roller Regimen Program 28 days. WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO LOSE? Warren M. Rodgers

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men today, closely following lung cancer. About one man in six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. But only one in 35 will die from it. More than two million men in the United States who have been diagnosed at some point are still alive today. I am one of them. My book, Cancer is a Four-Letter Word: A Pilgrimage into the Emotional, Sexual, and Spiritual Aspects of Prostate Cancer, chronicles my own experience with this terrible disease. From early diagnosis, fear, and panic, to shopping for the best treatment, to surgery and subsequent recovery, I trace not only the physical journey of getting my stamina and good health back, but also the psychological and sexual implications. My format includes an interweaving of my own story of prostate cancer with other men's stories, along with open-ended questions at the end of each chapter to keep men and their partners talking late into the night. Theres also a resource list to provide support for a lifetime. Although concise and easy to read, my book doesnt hold back any personal details. Readers will learn what to expect in regard to diapering oneself post-surgery, working through debilitating depression, and forging the uncharted territory of a different kind of sexual intimacy. More importantly, theyll hear about learning to accept support from loving friends and how to talk to God in a whole new way. Rarely does a reader find an account of experiencing Gods overwhelming love and grace in the same chapter as explicit details on how to give oneself penile injections to overcome erectile dysfunction!
