This is a thoroughly revised version of the original book published in 1986. About half of the contents of the previous version remain essentially unchanged, and one quarter has been rewritten and updated. The rest consists of completely new and extended material. Recent research has focussed on new materials made through "molecular engineering", and computational materials science through ab initio electron structure calculations. Another trend is the ever growing interdisciplinary aspect of both basic and applied materials science. There is an obvious need for reviews that link well established results to the modern approaches. One purpose of this book is to provide such an overview in a specific field of materials science, namely thermophysical phenomena that are intimately connected with the lattice vibrations of solids. This includes, e.g., elastic properties and electrical and thermal transport. Furthermore, this book attempts to present the results in such a form that the reader can clearly see their domain of applicability, for instance if and how they depend on crystal structure, defects, applied pressure, crystal anisotropy etc. The level and presentation is such that the results can be immediately used in research. Graduate students in condensed matter physics, metallurgy, inorganic chemistry or geophysical materials will benefit from this book as will theoretical physicists and scientists in industrial research laboratories.

NCTP'07 was the fourth in a series of biannual conferences on thermophysical properties being organized by the prestigious Thermophysical Society of India. The first Asian Thermophysical conference was held in Guwahati University in 1994, the second in the Rajasthan University; Jaipur and the third in the University of Goa. All papers have been peer-reviewed. These Conferences are designed to be unique forums for the exchange of ideas and the newest technical information on thermophysical properties, as well as materials characterization for both the novice and the expert, and for the experts to share experiences with their peers.

The report covers work on a continuing systematic program involving the search, collection, extraction, evaluation, correlation, interpolation, extrapolation, and the final preparation of tables of properties referred to as 'most probable' values. The report does not contain the completed data sheets, but does reproduce in the Appendix up-to-date Tables of Contents of Volumes I, II and III of the Data Books in which the loose-leaf data sheets are organized. The works reported on consist of the thermal conductivity and viscosity of gases and liquids, the thermal conductivity of metallic and nonmetallic elements, their alloys and their compounds, and the emissive properties of metals. The application of microwave energy for thermal processing of different materials and substances is a rapidly growing trend in modern science and engineering. In fact, optimal design work involving microwaves is impossible without solid knowledge of the properties of these materials. Here's a practical reference that collects essential data on the dielectric and thermal properties of microwaveable materials, saving you countless hours on projects in a wide range of areas, including microwave design and heating, applied electrodynamics, food science, and medical technology. This unique book provides hard-to-find information on complex dielectric permittivity of media at industrial, scientific, and medical frequencies (430 MHz, 915MHz, 2.45GHz, 5.8 GHz, and 24.125GHz). Written by a leading expert in the field, this authoritative book does an exceptional job at presenting critical data on various materials and explaining what their key characteristics are concerning microwaves.

A resource for reactor physicists and engineers and students of nuclear power engineering, this publication provides a comprehensive summary of the thermophysical properties data needed in nuclear power engineering. It includes data for nuclear fuels (metallic and ceramic), coolants (gases, light water, heavy water and liquid metals), moderators, absorbers and structural materials. The correlations and equations provided allow for the estimation of all important thermodynamic and transport properties. The detailed material properties of both solid and liquid states are shown in tabular form. The data on thermophysical properties of saturated vapours of some metals are also given.

The thermophysical properties database for materials of light water reactors and heavy water reactors described in this technical document was established within the framework of an IAEA coordinated research project. The database is intended to serve as a useful source of information on thermophysical properties data for water cooled reactor analyses. In particular, it aims at achieving improvements in safety and economics of future plants by helping to remove the need for large design margins to account for limitations of data and methods. The database has been developed into an internationally available Internet database (THERPRO) at Hanyang University (Republic of Korea), and now provides various materials properties data and an interactively accessible information resource and communications medium for researchers and engineers.
