New York Times bestselling author of Super Natural Every Day, Heidi Swanson shares 125 natural foods recipes along with photographs inspired by her travels both near (Northern California) and far (Italy, Morocco, France, India, and Japan). Equal parts recipe journal and photo album, Near & Far focuses on dishes inspired by Heidi Swanson's Northern California kitchen and her many international travels to diverse cities including Marrakech, Tokyo, Paris, Jaipur, Rome, Kyoto, Palermo, New Delhi, and more. In this deeply personal collection, Heidi turns to the series of dog-eared recipe journals she has kept for years--each filled with newspaper clippings, magazine scraps, photos, stamps, receipts, and sticky notes to chronicle details she wants to remember: a paprika-spiked tomato soup in Amsterdam, the pattern of an ancient Italian olive grove she passed on the way to the Bari airport, and the precise way an elderly Vietnamese woman carefully sliced broccoli stems in the back of a grocery in New Zealand. Vegetarian recipes such as Carrot and Sake Salad, Fennel Frond Orzo, Rye Buttermilk Cakes, Harissa Farro, Fresh Ginger Citrus Juice, and Brown Butter Tortelli make use of the healthy, whole foods ingredients and approachable techniques that Heidi's sizable fanbase has come to expect. And photographs taken on location around the world--as well as back home in Heidi's kitchen--reveal the places that inspire her warm and nourishing cooking.

From up close and far away, things can look so different. Can you guess what animals you’re looking at as they zoom in, then zoom back out? No words are needed in this striking and colorful exploration of animal shapes. Bold graphic forms create a playful exercise in visual perception. At first glance, that green bump might be a grassy hill. But we’re too close to be sure. Step back (turn the page) to see a little more. Now there are two green loopy humps. What could it be? Turn one more page to reveal — of course, the squiggles of a snake! Preschoolers will see animals in a new way when they look from both near and far.

This is a book, my dear Turner, which I had in my heart to write for many years. The thought of it came to me with that other thought that I was growing—rather, grown—old; that the curtain had definitely been rung down on all the days of my youth. And so I got into the way of looking back, of recalling the far gone times and suns of the 'seventies and early 'eighties when the scene of my life was being set. I made up my mind that I would write about it all—some day. Some day would undoubtedly have been Never; if it had not been for you. I had not spoken of the projected book to you or anyone else; but one fine morning in 1915 you ordered me to write it! You were then, you will remember, editing the London Evening News, and as a reporter on your staff I had nothing to do but to obey. The book was written, appeared in the paper as "The Confessions of a Literary Man," and now reappears as "Far Off Things." So far, good. I enjoyed writing the book enormously; and, I frankly confess, I enjoy reading it. In a word, I am not grumbling. But there is one little point that I do not mean to neglect. My complacent views as to "Far Off Things" may not be shared by other and, possibly, more competent judges. And what I want to impress on you is this: that if there is to be trouble, "you are going to have your share of it." You ordered the book to be written, you printed it in your paper, you have urged me to reprint it, not once or twice, but again and again.

**NEW YORK TIMES & USATODAY Bestselling Series** There’s optimistic. And there’s Jesse Walker. If he wasn’t so charming, his sunny disposition and incessant grin would get old. Fast. Falling in love with the broken girl who had at first seemed immune to anything resembling love was the best thing to happen to Jesse since the Walkers adopted him when he was five. As Jesse’s life continues at the ranch and Rowen begins making her mark in the Seattle art community, they wonder where the middle ground is. Or if there even is one. As push comes to shove, they’re forced to make choices neither are eager to make, and Jesse and Rowen have to face what their lives might look like without the other. Can two people with such tragic pasts and different presents expect a promising future together? Whatever the answer, they’ll need a lot more than love to make it. *Recommended for mature readers due to moderate content and language.*

The four travel essays brought together in this volume represent the trips taken by one family living in the huge metropolis of New York. Two of the trips were planned vacations, and two were impromptu weekend visits to get away from the confinements of city life, and its reminder of the pressures work. In these essays, we get an insight into their motivation for travel, its impact, and the reaction of one member of the family. Reynold Burrowes ably chronicles these events with a wit and subtlety which draws his reader in. His wonderful prose gives his readers a sense of presence, whether he takes them along with him to a coal mine or a field of flowers.
