“A fifteen-year-old creates an alter ego to woo his dream girl. Compulsively readable.” —The New York Times This quirky, flirty, and smart story will appeal to fans of Frank Portman’s King Dork, John Green’s An Abundance of Katherines, and Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor and Park. His girl moved to California without saying good-bye. And the ink on his parents’ divorce papers is barely dry when his mom announces they’re moving from Queens to Long Island. The silver lining? Moving next door to Patsy, everyone’s dream girl. Not that she’d ever notice him. But when Vinnie calls Patsy one night, it leads to a chain of anonymous midnight conversations, and the two develop a surprisingly strong connection despite the lies it’s built on. But as Vinnie gets to know Patsy in real life, it’s clear that both identities can’t survive. . . . From the Hardcover edition.

Book Summary The Just, the Raw, and the Furious is an in-depth conversational and enlightening narrative about the myriad aspects of popular culture and current society. Among the more compelling topics examined include the misunderstood nature of romantic relationships, the insidious effects of drugs, the hypocrisy of governmental policies, the overwhelming oppressive nature inherent in government, the crucial role of religion, and the role of death in one’s life. This commentary conveys thought-provoking but substantiated views on these issues and brings the reader along a journey of self-discovery in the process. Furthermore, this is a vivid account of special circumstances and events that in the end challenge the reader to question his or hers beliefs, motives and purpose in life.

The Great Crowd is a social history of All Saints Episcopal Church of Omaha, Nebraska. Founded in 1885, precisely at the moment when Omaha was experiencing a spurt of rapid grown, the parish has continued to succeed as a religious community deeply enmeshed in the life of the city. It was from the beginning a distinctly urban parish and, as change came for the city, underwent its changes, including a major relocation of its facility. It also found itself navigating the changes in national culture and in the character of the larger Episcopal Church. Curiously, very different rectors—eight in all, with different configurations of lay leadership drawn from across the city—responded to these successive waves of change, and yet, they held on the conviction that they had maintained the unique identity of the parish that they had inherited from those who had gone before them. They did so in no small part by telling their story. Drawing from the parish archives, including its vestry minutes, correspondence, and publications the author, himself one of the eight rectors, has taken up a critical retelling the story bring up to 9/11, 2001. These pages contain a strange tapestry of names and faces, from Omaha’s cowboy mayor to its storied lawyers and devout bus drivers who melded themselves in that strange unity called a parish. In the author’s telling, the story becomes a critical tool for understanding how a Christian community works and for providing a basis for a critical assessment of the purpose and meaning of religious community in American life.
