It's been nearly a decade since the world ended. Since Joss watched her parents die at the hands of a nightmare, a nightmare that stalks her even now, all these years later. That's the problem with the Risen - they refuse to die. But Joss is a survivor. A loner living in the post-apocalyptic streets of Seattle. It's a world dictated by Risen and the looming threat of the Colonists, a group of fellow survivors living comfortably in their compounds and patrolling the wild, looking to "save" the orphans of the end. Orphans like Joss. Like Ryan. As a member of an all male gang, Ryan is a threat as real as the Risen, a threat Joss avoids at all costs. Then one night their paths cross and Joss makes a choice that goes against all of her instincts. A choice that will threaten everything she has. Now a new outbreak is imminent and the Colonists are closing in. Joss' solitary, secret world is blown wide open and the comfortable numbness she's lived in for the last six years will burn away leaving her aching and afraid. And awake.

It doesn't take San Francisco detective Del Mason long to realize that her new neighbor, Lola Bannon, has more baggage than a cruise ship. She's seen too many victims of domestic violence not to recognize all the signs. Their mutual spark of attraction is compelling, but she knows that for now Lola needs friends, not lovers. When Lola is mugged and then her home vandalized, Del can't help but take a personal interest though other detectives are on the case. Vandalism escalates to vicious warnings and allusions to Lola's past, but Lola has no idea what the perpetrator wants. The department advises Lola enter protective custody. The one person Lola trusts, Detective Del Mason, is ordered to keep her safe. With her duty and honor on the line, Del vows that the desire that grows every day they spend alone together won't cost Del her badge—and Lola her life. The Writing on the Wall is the passionate story of one woman's survival of the past and another's commitment to the future that gives them the chance at happiness neither of them believed possible.

Students in Japan, China, and Korea are among the world's top performers on standardized math and science tests. The nations of East Asia are also leading manufacturers of consumer goods that incorporate scientific breakthroughs in telecommunications, optics, and transportation. Yet there is a startling phenomenon known throughout Asia as the "creativity problem." While East Asians are able to use science, they have not demonstrated the ability to invent radically new systems and paradigms that lead to new technologies. In fact, the legal and illegal transfer of technology from the West to the East is one of the most contentious international business issues. Yet Asians who study and work in the West and depend upon Western languages for their research are among the most creative and talented scientists, no less so than their Western counterparts. William C. Hannas contends that this paradox emerges from the nature of East Asian writing systems, which are character-based rather than alphabetic. Character-based orthographies, according to the author, lack the abstract features of alphabetic writing that model the thought processes necessary for scientific creativity. When first learning to read, children who are immersed in a character-based culture are at a huge disadvantage because such writing systems do not cultivate the ability for abstract thought. Despite the overwhelming body of evidence that points to the cognitive side-effects, the cultural importance of character-based writing makes the adoption of an alphabet unlikely in the near future.

Why This - Why Now? My muse made me write this. Just for you. You're welcome. Disclaimer: I've been publishing for over a decade and writing for years before that. Self-publishing was started in self-defense against the constant nagging of that muse mentioned above. Meanwhile, I've enjoyed financial freedom for several years, meaning I fired my last boss some time back. My books started paying my bills and since then have mostly improved in sales from month to month. I live within my means while I increase those means. The point of this was to do a final "brain dump" to get this data out in a single package of data outlining the essential points of a writing system you can follow. And it's been called "concise" and "easy to follow" by my advanced readers. What it doesn't have is a bunch of listicals or authoritative-sounding link-bait. The data that supports this book is in another dozen short books I've written and published on the subject. (Check the "bonus" sections from and back to get access to them.) Or you can simply look around wherever you get your ebooks, as I probably have the copies there as well. I make my living from writing and publishing, rinse, repeat. But I don't make a living from telling people how to write and publish. Generally, I give my hard-won knowledge mostly away for free (if you now where to look - hint: that "bonus" section again...) In this short book, you get the outline and the bare-knuckle opinion of who I think is worth a damn to learn from. Just because I've spent a lot of time and money on courses that weren't worth it, doesn't mean you should have to. And there are some wild theories that no one else has proved, but you can be my guest. They work for me. They help me make sense of self-publishing. And I'm about to do a couple of major tests of these, but wanted to let you know in case I don't surface from those adventures. Meanwhile, it's over to you. Have fun. Leave a review if you like it. Buy my other books if its worth something to you. Cheers!

This book is written with the intention of helping parents constructively pick up the pieces of a broken marriage and rebuild a new form of a family once you decide to divorce and move on. Divorce does not mean your family is dissolved forever. It can be seen as an opportunity for personal growth. With some introspection and thoughtful effort, parents can realize their strengths and resources.
