Leaving a trail of broken hearts scattered across the islands, surf instructor Colby Taylor, aka Breaker, is running full speed away from her selfish actions years earlier. Hiding in the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean, the last thing she expects to encounter is Elizabeth Collins, a stuffy, judgmental college professor forced down her own escape path. Elizabeth is uncharacteristically drawn to the mysterious surfer but can't picture herself having a vacation fling, or any other relationship with the enigamatic Breaker. Set in the backdrop of Maui, one of Hawaii's most beautiful islands, both women must overcome their doubts and apprehensions to discover the true beauty of life—each other.

This work examines the effect of the use of scripture on the interpretation of the Markan passion narrative, Mark 14:1-15:47. In the methodically focused section which begins the work, Kelli O'Brien first defines the term allusion and the criteria by which allusions are established and then. She then tests the allusions suggested by previous scholars. For the trial and crucifixion scenes, only eleven references have sufficient verbal and other correspondence to be considered probable or certain allusions, out of the roughly 150 references suggested. The numbers for allusions in Mark 14:1-52 are similar. Demonstrable allusions are relatively few, too few to support the theory favoured by many that the passion narrative was constructed by means of allusions to Scripture. The work assesses the interpretive impact of the allusions on the Markan passion narrative, considering how those passages are treated in Jewish and Christian traditions potentially available to the author. Allusions interpret the Markan Christology, but they also interpret other aspects of the drama, such as the opponents in the Jewish trial and the offer of vinegary wine. Most importantly, allusions in the passion narrative indicate in what sense the author understood Jesus' death to be redemptive and that the "ransom" the Son of Man gives (Mark 10:45) is eschatological.

Overcoming Obstacles to Self-Discovery There is a conflict going on within us and we long to be free of it. On the one hand, we are caring, responsible, spiritually sensitive . . . but on the other, we are self-centered, greedy, bogged down by daily desires. Clifford Williams understands. Observant and sensitive to the human spirit, he reminds us that self-awareness is the only sure path to growth. His Daybreakers are fresh and insightful, showing us who we are and how to find the person we want to be. Offering a process long enough to last a year and flexible enough to use in any moment, each of these 365 reflections helps us identify our inner conflicts and then move beyond them. They tackle themes like restlessness, justifying ourselves, allowing ourselves to be loved, looking for goodness, and many more. Daybreakers helps us take a simple step toward keeping our lives in perspective and reminds us that each day is a new opportunity to discover who we are and where we are going.

The Price of Passion is the eagerly awaited sequel to Carla van Raay's international bestselling memoir, God's Callgirl. A former nun and prostitute, Carla van Raay thought she had come to terms with her traumatic past. But then she received a phone call that threatened to upset the balance once again. Carla had first met Aaron at a tumultuous time in her life. She had left a convent after 13 years of bitter cruelty, lost her virginity in a brutal fashion to a man she barely knew, and then hastily got married before giving birth to a beautiful daughter. Now Aaron was back. And what's more he wanted to resume a relationship that had been intense, yet short-lived. But so much had happened since then. Carla had left her husband and, after years of repression in the convent, had turned to prostitution. The Price of Passion is a very personal story written with honesty and raw emotion. It is the story of two people who have tried to overcome abusive pasts embarking on a new, yet equally challenging, journey; but neither could have foreseen what lay ahead.

This important contribution about ancient coins in India has been written jointly by Osmund Bopearachchi and Wilfried Pieper. It is an impressive volume of 289 pages with 59 plates which presents a private collection of ancient coins patiently gathered trough the years. In Part one, W.Pieper develops a historical commentary about the earliest coinages of India, the imperial period of late Magadha and Maurya rule ( ca late IVth-early IInd centuries B.C.), Ujjain and Eran, the Satavahanas (ca Ist century B.C.-early IInd century A.D.), and tribal republics and kingdoms in post-Mauryan northern India ( ca 200 B.C-ca 300 A.D.). This commentary is followed by a detailed catalogue with very precise drawings of more than 600 coins and punch-marked coins. Part two by o. Bopearachhi is organized on the same pattern: a historical commentary about foreign powers in ancient northern India, from the Bactrian Greeks untill the time of the early Kushans followed by a precise catalogue presenting Greek, Graeco-Bactrian and Indo-Greek, Indo-Scythian, Indo-Parthian, and early Kushan coins (in fact, more than 300 specimens). The commentary intends to give a general overview of the coins concerned and of their historical context with a more extensive discussion of the series best represented in the collection. For the indigenous Indian coins this is specially true for the coinages of Ujjain, Eran, Taxila and Kausambi, many of which are new and published here for the first time.

As the nineteenth century comes to a close, the illustrious Vanderbilt family dominates Newport, Rhode Island, high society. But when murder darkens a glittering affair at their summer home, reporter Emma Cross learns that sometimes the cream of the crop can curdle one’s blood . . . Newport, Rhode Island, August 1895: She may be a less well-heeled relation, but as second cousin to millionaire patriarch Cornelius Vanderbilt, twenty-one-year-old Emma Cross is on the guest list for a grand ball at the Breakers, the Vanderbilts’ summer home. She also has a job to do—report on the event for the society page of the Newport Observer. But Emma observes much more than glitz and gaiety when she witnesses a murder. The victim is Cornelius Vanderbilt’s financial secretary, who plunges off a balcony faster than falling stock prices. Emma’s black sheep brother Brady is found in Cornelius’s bedroom passed out next to a bottle of bourbon and stolen plans for a new railroad line. Brady has barely come to before the police have arrested him for the murder. But Emma is sure someone is trying to railroad her brother and resolves to find the real killer at any cost . . . “Sorry to see the conclusion of Downton Abbey? Well, here is a morsel to get you through a long afternoon. Brew some Earl Grey and settle down with a scone with this one.” —Washington Independent Review of Books
