I began writing this collection soon after publishing Emotions. From memory, I have always been fascinated with the moon and remember using my favorite Uncle's World War II binoculars, staring at the moon with wonder and delight. During a conversation with the dear friend from, "In Praise of Southern Girls," she suggested the name, Moon Stages. In truth, our lives change with the seasons but ever so subtly with the more frequent changes of the moon. These poems come from a healed, thankful heart. They pay tribute to friendship, to finding again those from my past, they offer up a thanksgiving for blessings and sing a song to new love. Preview readings from portions of this work have garnered each time the comment, "Can't wait to read this collection!"

In Coming Together, Ryan Powell captures the social and political vitality of the first wave of movies made by, for, and about male-desiring men in the United States between World War II and the 1980s. From the underground films of Kenneth Anger and the Gay Girls Riding Club to the gay liberation-era hardcore films and domestic dramas of Joe Gage and James Bidgood, Powell illuminates how central filmmaking and exhibition were to gay socializing and worldmaking. Unearthing scores of films and a trove of film-related ephemera, Coming Together persuasively unsettles popular histories that center Stonewall as a ground zero for gay liberation and visibility. Powell asks how this generation of movie-making--which defiantly challenged legal and cultural norms around sexuality and gender--provided, and may still provide, meaningful models for living.

The signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was expected to signal the beginning of a new era of close co-operation between Mexico and the United States. Subsequent events, however, have introduced new tensions into the relationship. The 1995 economic collapse in Mexico sharply curtailed economic growth and lowered the demand for U.S. exports. The result has been a substantial deficit in U.S. trade with Mexico and renewed arguments that trade with Mexico reduces the employment opportunities of low-skilled workers in the United States. Immigration, both legal and illegal, has grown as a subject of contention between the two countries. Mexico has also come under increased focus as a conduit for the flow of drugs into the United States. In this book, scholars from the United States and Mexico examine the major elements of the bilateral relationship. The economic dimension is highlighted in two papers that focus on the effects of NAFTA on trade and financial transactions. The political and social dimensions are taken up in three papers on immigration, drug trafficking, and environmental concerns. The contributors include J. Enrique Espinosa and Pedro Noyola, SAI Consultores, Mexico; John Williamson, Institute for International Economics; Juan Carlos Belausteguigoitia, Ministry of the Environment, Mexico; Peter Smith, University of California, San Diego; and George Borjas, Harvard University.

Marked by two world wars, the Holocaust, and a host of violent conflicts, the twentieth century has been the most explosive and destructive in human history. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, it is vital that we understand what went wrong in the preceding hundred years. Historian Edward Kantowicz provides an engaging narrative of the events, people, and ideas driving the world's social and political course in the twentieth century in his two-volume work, The World in the Twentieth Century. In Coming Apart, Coming Together, volume 2 of his narrative history of the twentieth century, Edward Kantowicz explores the landmark events that shaped the planet after World War II. Noting that this period was dominated by two global events-the superpower Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union and the revolt against imperialism in Africa, Asia, and Latin America-Kantowicz shows how the trajectories of each have driven nations apart while, at the same time, also created political and regional alliances for bringing the world closer together. Providing compelling, often disconcerting reading, this volume helps make sense of what is happening in the world today by considering important lessons from our recent past.

The idea of "community" is increasingly vital to our individual and social well-being. Yet at the same time, our ordinary communal relations are being eroded by increased social and geographical mobility, lost traditions, and the growing pluralism of society. Examining this renewed desire for community, Coming Together/Coming Apart locates the current problems of society in the conditions of modern capitalism. Arising out of a common matrix of a world in crisis, contemporary religious, social and feminist discussions of community compose an ideological struggle over the reformation of society.
