This book provides an introduction into both computational models and experimental paradigms that are concerned with sensory cue integration both within and between sensory modalities. Importantly, across behavioral, electrophysiological and theoretical approaches, Bayesian statistics is emerging as a common language in which cue-combination problems can be expressed. This book focuses on the emerging probabilistic way of thinking about these problems. These approaches derive from the realization that all our sensors are noisy and moreover are often affected by ambiguity. For example, mechanoreceptor outputs are variable and they cannot distinguish if a perceived force is caused by the weight of an object or by force we are producing ourselves. The computational approaches described in this book aim at formalizing the uncertainty of cues. They describe cue combination as the nervous system's attempt to minimize uncertainty in its estimates and to choose successful actions. Some computational approaches described in the chapters of this book are concerned with the application of such statistical ideas to real-world cue-combination problems, such as shape and depth perception. Other parts of the book ask how uncertainty may be represented in the nervous system and used for cue combination. The broadening scope of probabilistic approaches to cue combination is highlighted in the breadth of topics covered in this book: the chapters summarize and discuss computational approaches and behavioral evidence aimed at understanding the combination of visual, auditory, proprioceptive, and haptic cues. Some chapters address the combination of cues within a single sensory modality while others address the combination across sensory modalities. Neural implementation, behavior, and theory are considered. The unifying aspect of this book is the focus on the uncertainty intrinsic to sensory cues and the underlying question of how the nervous system deals with this uncertainty. The book is intended as a reference text for graduate students and professionals in perceptual psychology, computational neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience and sensory neurophysiology.

When a college sweetheart used Ginny Cline's dreams for his own glory, he stole her joy of composing music and her trust in men. Years later, encouraged by prayer and a chance to help the local museum, she dares to share her talents again. Unfortunately a financial backer forces her to place her music and trust into the hands of another man. Theater professor Scott Hallmark's summer camp benefactor coerces him into becoming the director of Ginny's musical. The last thing he needs is another woman who uses him to get what they want, especially an amateur who has no idea what they are doing. As Ginny's interest in Scott grows, her confusion arises over Honey, a member of Scott's praise band. Mix in a couple of dogs and quirky cast members for fun and frustration as the couple work together to discover that forgiveness and trust produce perfect harmony.

This book is about Cue Ball Speed and Stroke Control in the game of Pool. In studying this area, I found a basis to create references for obtaining this control that anyone could learn. They were found through proper skill arrangement and stroke familiarities. These similarities became references to creating bridges of understanding between the individual Cue Ball Control skills. As you work with the material in this way, you’ll notice an improvement in your abilities because now your feel will be based on an understanding of the connections and core strokes, you’ve come to know. The player with the refined touch is always the player with the most chances to win. Some players develop a nice feel for Speed and Stroke on their own, but many don’t. Being under described to instruction means, it takes a lot of playing to develop these fine motor skills and many players have complete skills missing because they tend to play their favorite games. Each discipline or game requires the use of all the Cue Ball skills but in differing percentages. So, it’s possible to ignore the use of some skills that would make you an above average player in your favorite game. If you enjoy the game, why not play your best? Cue Ball Travel and Stroke Control are essential to a better game. In many ways Cue Ball skill is the most important one. The way I cover it, it would be hard not to get better Cue Ball Control just from the reading. You’ll be left with ideas that make sense, and they will lead you to a better ability to Control the Cue Ball. As you revisit the skills in practice your control will increase. Some of the skills are a challenge at first but as you wrap your mind around them your ability to perform them will rise. The techniques are easy to think about in games which is where the art takes place. As your control increases it blends with feel and touch, which is exactly what you should be able to achieve. Your feel will now have a stroke you understand to go with it. This makes Cue Ball movement more dependable and causes you to connect with it sooner, now that you have a memory in your mind for the stroke that helps you create muscle memory for your stroke. This book is my favorite of the Series. Pool is a game of shot making and touch. The feel with which you Control the Cue Ball when making a shot, is easily no less than 80% of the game. With your Speed and Spin better you’ll be tougher to beat. I cover techniques for both in this book also an Advanced Technique for reducing Cue Ball Travel Distance with Side Spin that is worth the price of the book.
