This is a sociolinguistic analysis of emerging varieties of language use resulting f the advent of the internet era. It looks at the social networks and its emerging varieties with special focus on twitter, FaceBook, WhatsApp and text messages. This study therefore, considers the ways in which language is affected as a result of distortions which this new trend has introduced in the use of language. It has been observed that the norms of Standard English have been badly violated. This analysis draws its resource from social media sites such as tweets on Twitter, status updates on FaceBook, chats on WhatsApp and text messages. These samples were analyzed based on abbreviations, shortening acronyms, initialism, contractions, clipping, letter/number homophones, and non-conventional spellings. The result of the analysis helped in establishing whether there is a possibility of a new variety of language emerging from the social networks.
