Two masterworks of science fiction at one low price, from award-winning authors Larry Niven and Edward M. Lerner! Ringworld's Children The Ringworld is a landmark engineering achievement, a flat band three million times the surface area of Earth, encircling a distant star. Home to trillions of inhabitants, not all of whom are human, and host to amazing technological wonders, the Ringworld is unique in all of the universe. Explorer Louis Wu, an Earth-born human who was part of the first expedition to Ringworld, becomes enmeshed in interplanetary and interspecies intrigue as war and a powerful new weapon threaten to tear the Ringworld apart forever. Now, the future of Ringworld lies in the actions of its children. All must play a dangerous game in order to save Ringworld's population and the stability of Ringworld itself. Fleet of Worlds It is two hundred years before the discovery of the Ringworld. Humanity has been faithfully serving the Citizens for years, and Kirsten Quinn-Kovacks is among the best and the brightest of the humans. She gratefully serves the race that rescued her ancestors from a dying starship, gave them a home world, and nurtures them still. When a chain reaction of supernovae at the galaxy's core unleashes a wave of lethal radiation that will sterilize the galaxy, the Citizens flee, taking their planets, the Fleet of Worlds, with them. Someone must scout ahead, and Kirsten and her crew eagerly volunteer. Under the guiding eye of Nessus, their Citizen mentor, they explore for any possible dangers in the Fleet's path--and uncover long-hidden truths that will shake the foundations of worlds. Fleet of Worlds marks Larry Niven's first full novel-length collaboration within his Known Space universe, the playground he created for his bestselling Ringworld series. Teaming up with fellow SF writer Edward M. Lerner, Fleet of Worlds takes a closer look at the Human-Puppeteer (Citizens) relations and the events leading up to Niven's first Ringworld novel. Kirsten Quinn-Kovacs is among the best and brightest of her people. She gratefully serves the gentle race that rescued her ancestors from a dying starship, gave them a world, and nurtures them still. If only the Citizens knew where Kirsten's people came from.... A chain reaction of supernovae at the galaxy's core has unleashed a wave of lethal radiation that will sterilize the galaxy. The Citizens flee, taking their planets, the Fleet of Worlds, with them. Someone must scout ahead, and Kirsten and her crew eagerly volunteer. Under the guiding eye of Nessus, their Citizen mentor, they explore for any possible dangers in the Fleet's path—and uncover long-hidden truths that will shake the foundations of worlds. Humanity once feared that we might be alone in the universe. Now we know better. And we've learned there are worse things than being alone ...Joshua Matthews has the opportunity to write the definitive history of InterstellarNet. In that history he plans to focus attention on the improbability that an interstellar community even exists. But somehow, returning home from the party thrown to celebrate his good fortune, he has lost a month of his life. Everyone is certain he's been on an epic bender. And so, rather than promoted, he is disgraced, unemployed, and unemployable ... Firh Glithwah, leader of the Hunter clan Arblen Ems, schemes to liberate her people from two decades of ignominious internment and isolation on a remote moon of Uranus. And in the process to take vengeance against their human oppressors ... Reporter Corinne Elman and United Planets intel agent Carl Rowland, each in their own way, remains scarred and haunted by the bloody fiasco that was the Hunter invasion of the Solar System ... And none of them suspects that their tribulations have only begun, or that their lives will entwine--across time and space--to confront the InterstellarNet Enigma. InterstellarNet: Engima incorporates the Hugo-nominated novelette "Championship B'tok."

The first edition of the Bremen World Shipping Yearbook, pub lished in 1953, met with a conspicuously good reception in profes sional circles at home and abroad. The international shipping press as well as the com~etent men of science and shipping industry in the widest sense of the word warmly commended the new publication. The widespread interest, the general demand for a continuation of this work and the overall recognition have encouraged the author, Dr. G.A. THEEL, to cope once more with all the difficulties aris ing from a fundamentally new analysis of 1953/54-World Shipping as offered by this book. In order to render the book directly accessable to interested professional circles abroad, abilingual edition is presented this time. This together with the necessary extension of statistical data would have sent up the price of this book considerably. Consequently a solution had to be found for cutting down the printing costs with out, however, reducing the scientific value of this book. Consider ing the general boost of printing charges, it has become almost impossible to edit an extensive scientific work with widely diversi fied statistical data and graphs in a normally printed form and at a reasonable price, acceptable to all interested circles.
