Brilliant scientists have always existed ahead of their time. Just give them the necessary resources, and they create miracles. On the colonized world of Mars, Dr. Ano, her assistant Chio, and their friend Ganok existed as gods, joined as one in a technological union with the supercomputer Margot. They formed a trio of immortal Demon Kings who determined the fate of all life on that planet. But long ago, they lived as normal humans on Earth. They went to school together and bonded through shared hardships. They even experienced love. All the while, the powers-that-be kept a nervous eye on Ano's dangerous research. If left unchecked, her research could destroy human civilization. This is their story.

From the Foreword: "Is it possible at present to identify a core cluster of theoretical ideas, concepts, and methods with which everyone working in the area of learning and cognition needs to be familiar? Would it be possible to make explicit the relationships that we feel do or must exist among the various subspecialties, ranging from conditioning through perceptual learning and memory to psycholinguistics, and to present these in a sufficiently organized way to help specialists and non-specialists alike in relating particular lines of research to the broader spectrum of activity? These questions were posed to a substantial number of investigators who are currently most active in developing the ideas and doing the research. Their response constitutes this Handbook..." First published in 1975, Volume 1 of this Handbook attempts to present an overview of the field and to introduce the principal theoretical and methodological issues that will persistently recur in the expanded treatments of specific research areas that comprise the later volumes. Deferring to the current Zeitgeist rather than to chronology, they begin with the present state of cognitive psychology, then introduce the comparative approach, and conclude this volume with a rapid, three-chapter review of the evolution of ideas from conditioning to information processing.

"The Summa Theologica is the best-known work of Italian philosopher, scholar, and Dominican friar SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS (1225 1274), widely considered the Catholic Church s greatest theologian. Famously consulted (immediately after the Bible) on religious questions at the Council of Trent, Aquinas s masterpiece has been considered a summary of official Church philosophy ever since. Aquinas considers approximately 10,000 questions on Church doctrine covering the roles and nature of God, man, and Jesus, then lays out objections to Church teachings and systematically confronts each, using Biblical verses, theologians, and philosophers to bolster his arguments. In Volume III, Aquinas addresses: faith and heresy charity peace and war mercy, anger, and justice prayer truth and much more. This massive work of scholarship, spanning five volumes, addresses just about every possible query or argument that any believer or atheist could have, and remains essential, more than seven hundred years after it was written, for clergy, religious historians, and serious students of Catholic thought."

Texts act like receptacles for an ever-present remembered past, or what the French philosopher Paul Ricœur calls “the present representation of an absent thing”. They might embody an efficient remedy to forgetting but could also become a vivid testimony for exorcised traumas. This volume focuses on Ricœur’s phenomenology of memory, epistemology of history, and hermeneutics of forgetting. A special emphasis is laid on the dissension between individual and collective institutional memory.

FOR NEARLY 150 years, the Review and Herald has been the official church paper of the Seventh-day Adventist people. A paper, The Present Truth, was first printed in August 1849. In 1851 the name was changed to Second Advent Review and Sabbath Herald. Over the decades the church paper has carried a number of names, and as of 2012 it is simply Adventist Review. Our “church paper”actually preceded, by fourteen years, the official organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1863. From its inception, throughout her life, the messenger of the Lord, Ellen G. White, used the Review and Herald as one of the main avenues of communicating God’s counsels to His remnant people. During that sixty-six year span nearly 2,000 messages by God of direction, reproof, and inspiration were published in the Review and Herald. This present edition has all of her articles, published through 1915, unabridged in four volumes.

"Don't scold me, Livy—let me pay my due homage to your worth; let me honor you above all women; let me love you with a love that knows no doubt, no question—for you are my world, my life, my pride, my all of earth that is worth the having." These are the words of Samuel Clemens in love. Playful and reverential, jubilant and despondent, they are filled with tributes to his fiancée Olivia Langdon and with promises faithfully kept during a thirty-four-year marriage. The 188 superbly edited letters gathered here show Samuel Clemens having few idle moments in 1869. When he was not relentlessly "banged about from town to town" on the lecture circuit or busily revising The Innocents Abroad, the book that would make his reputation, he was writing impassioned letters to Olivia. These letters, the longest he ever wrote, make up the bulk of his correspondence for the year and are filled with his acute wit and dazzling language. This latest volume of Mark Twain's Letters captures Clemens on the verge of becoming the celebrity and family man he craved to be. This volume has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and by a major donation to the Friends of The Bancroft Library from the Pareto Fund.

This book is a very simple guide which will not only groom the child but also instill in him the spirit of gaining Quranic understanding. The book comprises a summary of the 114 Surahs (chapters) of Quran in a very simple manner. The summary provides understanding of such areas as Islamic knowledge, ideology, practice and character development. The book has been written for the students of hifz (memorisation). Therefore, issues of academic nature have not been touched upon nor is there an explanation of the complete surah (Quranic Chapter). Generally, things are explained in the context of the title of the surah. If there is an incident narrated in the surah, it has been explained for the interest of the students. If there are some directions related to character development those have also been explained. In the end of every surah's summary, the key message of that surah is written. You may call it a summary of the summary or the key lesson. The purpose is that if the student cannot remember the whole summary he at least registers one key message in his mind. Similarly, if I was able to find a hadith describing the excellence of a particular surah, that has also been mentioned - so that the student reads that surah with more interest. Effort has also been made to keep the language as simple as possible. However, the subject matter is from Quran and it was difficult to make its understanding any easier than this. If the respected teachers can narrate and explain the summary of each surah to their students before the hifz of that surah, it can be hoped that the beliefs of these students will be corrected and they will realize the importance of good character and deeds. Since the book has been written for the huffaz, excellence of Quran; excellence of hifz; manners of recitation; importance of understaning Quran; way of doing hifz are some of the topics covered in the beginning. Further, some advice has been given to the teacher and parents of the hafiz. It is hoped that the advice will prove beneficial. The purpose of giving advising all of them is that the hafiz, his teacher and his parents, all realize their respective responsibilities. Consequently the hifz will become easier and its blessings will become evident. Dear readers! Out of all the books written for the huffaz, the style of this book is completely different. It is a totally new effort and every new effort has more chances of errors. If you point out these errors and provide me your valuable feedback you will do me a favor. In need of your prayers, late Muhammad Aslam Sheikhupuri (Who himself memorised the Quran in 11 months)

Shakespeare had extraordinary intelligence, unheard-of powers of observation and interpretation, a soaring imagination, a way with words that defies description, and a defining interest in the theater. He brought kings, queens, heroes, and peasantry to the stage so they could be seen in a more realistic fashion. Even so, in modern times, assistance is often needed to interpret Shakespeare's work. In A Leg Up on the Canon, author Jim McGahern provides an extensive biography of Shakespeare and offers an introductory guide to his histories, comedies, tragedies, romances, and poems. McGahern presents summaries of the texts, explanations of difficult passages, extensive historical context, and glossaries of terms no longer in use. In each volume, he outlines the plot of plays in that category and then delivers a one-act play with inclusive commentary. McGahern includes pertinent remarks and important speeches and soliloquies interlaced with brief explanations and descriptions of the actions on stage as well as plot developments. A Leg Up on the Canon, a four-volume series, provides insights into the word music of the talented man from Stratford.

The Book of Memory is a magisterial and beautifully illustrated account of the workings and function of memory in medieval society. Memory was the psychological faculty valued above all others in the period stretching from late antiquity through the Renaissance. The prominence given to memory has profound implications for the contemporary understanding of all creative activity, and the social role of literature and art. Drawing on a range of fascinating examples from Dante, Chaucer, and Aquinas to the symbolism of illuminated manuscripts, this unusually wide-ranging book offers new insights into the medieval world.
