This hilarious book invites you to sit down and share dinner with the Morans, a family of ten children, and after dinner to share in the family’s pranks and crises. You will walk the streets of Carmel, Indiana, a quiet, small town, visit its shops, and meet its neighborly people. Along the way, you will learn what it was like growing up in a large family in a small town during the 1950s and 1960s. Whimsical and, at times, knee-slapping tales guide you through childhood, teen years, early adulthood, and beyond. You get a peek at family dynamics and the struggles of an insecure boy’s first encounters with romance. You also learn what it was like to be a journalist, a government economist, a parent, and a golf fanatic. The stories are warm, touching, and always funny. The people you meet, mostly based on the author’s siblings, are friendly and fun-loving. The situations, based on real events and family lore, will keep you laughing. The author helps you see life through humor’s prism.

While living in anti-Semitic Vienna, Freud wrote in a letter to Ernest Jones, 'What progress we are making. In the Middle Ages they would have burned me. Now they are content with burning my books.' Tragicomic attunement-seeing the comic in the tragic and the tragic in the comic-is a perspective on life that, following Freud, is one of the best ways to 'to ward off possible suffering' and better manage the stressors, anxieties, and worries of everyday life. Moreover, tragicomic attunement and intervention has a meaning-giving, affect-integrating, life-affirming, double structure that is especi.

Based on Mark Gungor's wildly popular seminar, Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage® builds on Gungor's success with tens of thousands of couples who credit him with enriching, and even saving, their marriages. By using his unique blend of humor and tell-it-like-it-is honesty, he helps couples get along and have fun doing it. Through exploring a variety of subjects including the myth of a "soul mate," the different ways men and women think, the conflicting levels of libido, and the necessity to forgive, Gungor proves that the key to marital bliss is not romance or destiny -- it's work and skill. Couples need to work hard at maintaining their relationship and to have the skills to pull it off. The longer spouses wait to learn these skills, the greater their chance of wanting to bail, yet Gungor makes it easy for couples to bring their relationship to the next level.

Written for people who arent laughing at the joke their own life has become, Making a Joke Out of Ones Life contains over 2,500 jokes and one-liners that lets readers laugh at someone elses for a change. Ken Willidaus unique brand of humour addresses all aspects of life - from birth to death and everything in between. Willidau employs a variety of humorous devices to convey his message. Mostly drugs, alcohol and his brain. Ken Willidaus philosophy is that if youre going to make a joke out of your life you might as well make it one everyone can get a good laugh out of, too. The myriad of one-liners includes dark humour, tongue-in-cheek, a few jokes going around town about you, jest, self-defecating humour, plays on words and more. Book sections revolve around themes such as school, religion, sporting, sex, depression and aging. The chapters chart a route through life that make for interesting reading from innocent beginnings to the bitter end and Willidau hopes youll be just killing yourself laughing by the end of it all, too. Throughout the course of the book, Here Goes Nothing The First Weak, The Deformative Years, Friends and Enemas, Sporting A Black Eye, Proxy Morons and Th-Th-Th-Thats All Fooks are just a few of the given takes on the stages of life youll encounter. Looking at life through Ken Willidaus eyes will give you more appreciation for your own life or, at the very least, give you a reason to laugh through some it, if not exactly at it, right now. Making a Joke Out of Ones Life is a perfect read for one of those dismal days when that lonely bottle of wine just isnt enough and adding some cheese would, at least, make it look like youre a happy party of one, anyway, and not just your own funeral party waiting to happen.

Laughter was honored by the ancients as a spiritual healing tool and celebrated by the world's great religions. So why aren't we laughing along the spiritual path today? What would happen if we did? In this personal and funny look at humor as a spiritual practice, Rev. Susan Sparks---an ex-lawyer turned comedian and Baptist minister---presents a convincing case that the power of humor radiates far beyond punch lines. Whatever your faith tradition---or if you have none at all---join this veteran of the punch line and the pulpit in reclaiming the forgotten humor legacy found in thousands of years of human spiritual history. "Like music, laughter is a universal language. And Susan Sparks speaks this language like no other. [This book] weaves humor and the sacred into one beautiful work of art. If you want to blast some fresh air into your spiritual life, then by all means read this book!"---Naomi Judd, multi-platinum country music artist; actress; author, Naomi's Guide to Aging Gratefully and other books "Thank God for Susan Sparks! By immersing ourselves in her honest insights. warm encouragement, and hysterical stories. we're able to shatter the crust around our hearts that has kept us from fully experiencing the grace of life as God intended."---Peter Wallace, host and producer, Day 1; author, Living Loved: Knowing Jesus as the Lover of Your Soul "Pure joy, Lively and lighthearted examples illustrate the connection between guffawing and God. A must-read if you want to laugh, learn, and lighten up your journey on your spiritual path."---Allen Klein, author, The Courage to Laugh and The Healing Power of Humor "The definitive book about how humor and laughter have everything to do with God. You will laugh out loud, and then it will move you to quiet contemplation and awe. It has done more for me than most of the theology books I've been forced to plow through. I'm still smiling...and contemplating."---Edward L. Beck, CP, author, God Underneath: Spiritual Memoirs of a Catholic Priest; ABC News religion contributor

In An Entrepreneurial Journey Through Life: Learning, Loving, and Laughing, Ralph Z. "Bud" Sorenson, former president of Babson College, shares his own experiences to illustrate an important truth: "being entrepreneurial" goes far beyond starting new businesses--though that is certainly a part of it. In fact, the entrepreneurial mindset applies to all aspects of life, from choosing a career to finding a place to live to making the most out of your retirement. Sorenson takes us on a life journey full of twists and turns, "roads less traveled," exhilarating victories, and stinging defeats. He has applied the strong, simple midwestern values he learned from family, friends, and schooling to life in the eastern and western United States and exotic international locations. If you want an entrepreneurial education without going to school for it, this is the book for you!

No parent should ever hear the words: "your child has cancer". And yet, on March 21, 2001, that is exactly what we were told. Our daughter Kelly, who was not yet 13 years old, was diagnosed with advanced stage IV Neuroblastoma. In the U.S. more than 8,000 children under age 15 are diagnosed with cancer every year: one out of every 630 individuals. This book tells the story of one of those children, through the eyes of her mother. You will find this journey to be filled with laughter and tears. There is nothing more frightening to a child than knowing that their life could end soon. There is nothing more painful to a mother than to know that there is little she can do to ease the pain of her child who is suffering. What Kelly and I discovered together was that we had to find reasons to laugh, even on the most frightening of days. It was only through laughing that we found a way to manage the fear. Not just her fear, but mine as well.

Laughing Through Life At Fart Height is Gordon Kirkland's 10th book. He has been entertaining readers and audiences throughout North America and beyond for over two decades. Three of his previous books have received Canada's prestigious Stephen Leacock Award of Merit for Humour. Kirkland suffered a spinal cord injury in a 1990 car accident. In 2013 he received a life-saving organ transplant. This book features some of his favorite stories from his long-running syndicated humor column, previous books, other writing, and live performances, as well as new material written for this book. It is Kirkland's stated goal for this book, that it show that, while a spinal cord injury takes away some of the sense of feeling, it need not affect the sense of humor. All of the stories contained in this book were written after his injury, and the new material was written after his organ transplant. They all show that the humor that occurs in day to day life has been every bit as evident to him as they would be to someone who had not faced those traumas. The title comes from one of Kirkland's stage lines, that sitting in a wheelchair in a line-up or in a crowded elevator puts his head in the direct line of fire for other's flatulence.
