A debate of perennial interest, addressing one of the oldest questions posed to religious believers--if God made everything, who made God? Most recently leveled by the New Atheists, the question of the likelihood that God is a human invention was first asked in ancient Greece and has preoccupied religious believers for centuries ever since. Here, renowned scholar Robert Banks explores the history of this objection--from its earliest vocalization in the ancient world to its most famous advocates, including Freud, Marx, and others--and offers compelling evidence that takes both sides of the argument into account. Ideal for those with a general interest in New Atheism or for those studying religion, this informative guide will offer readers the chance to sort out once and for all what--if any--elements of their idea of God are man-made.

At the time of Jesus' birth , the world was full of gods. Thousands of them jostled, competed and merged with one another. In Syria ecstatic devotees castrated themselves in the streets to become priests of Atargatis In Galilee, holy men turned oil into wine, healed the sick, drove out devils, and claimed to be the Messiah. Every day thousands of people were leaving their family and tribes behind them and flocking into brand new multi-ethnic cities. The ancient world was in ferment as it underwent the first phase of globalisation, and in this ferment rulers and ruled turned to religion as a source of order and stability. Augustus, the first emperor of Rome (though he never dared officially to call himself so) was maneuvering his way to becoming worshipped as a god – it was one of the most brilliant makeovers ever undertaken by a ruler and his spin doctors. In North Africa, Amanirenas the warrior queen exploited her god-like status to inspire her armies to face and defeat Rome. In China the usurper Wang Mang won and lost his throne because of his obsession with Confucianism. To explore the power that religious belief has had over societies through the ages, Selina O'Grady takes the reader on a dazzling journey across the empires of the ancient world and introduces us to rulers, merchants, messiahs, priests and holy men. Throughout, she seeks to answer why, amongst the countless religious options available, the empires at the time of Jesus ‘chose' the religions they did? Why did China's rulers hitch their fate to Confucianism, a philosophy more than a religion? And why was a tiny Jewish cult led by Jesus eventually adopted by Rome's emperors rather than the cult of Isis which was far more popular and widespread? The Jesus cult , followed by no more than 100 people at the time of his death, should, by rights, have disappeared in a few generations. Instead it became the official religion of the Roman Empire. Why did Christianity grow so quickly to become the predominant world religion? What was it about its teachings that so appealed to people? And Man Created God looks at why and how religions have had such an immense impact on human history and in doing so uncovers the ineradicable connection between politics and religion - a connection which still defines us in our own age. This is an important, thrilling and necessary new work of history.

A "worldview" is the ground that supports every belief we hold, every decision we make, in this complex world. This book takes us on Carter's personal journey from a worldview based on reveled texts to one that is open to the very real, often confusing, world in which we live - now. This thoughtful volume faces the problems that perplex us: war, sex, and death; equality, power, and the meaning of it all, with a clarity free from ideology, a worldview that listens, observes, and strives to reduce the superfluous suffering of this planet and all it sustains.

And MAN CREATED GOD presents the Agnostic view point using science, history and logic while denying all religious belief and faith in revelations from a Creator or God. Reviews And MAN CREATED GOD is vigorous and clearly written. Readers should have no doubt about the position you take, the positions you challenge, and why you find religious beliefs doubtful. It articulates very well what you call the agnostic position. Charles F. Kielkopf, Professor of Philosophy, Ohio State University

The author believes that the religious arena has turned into a market place hence anyone can buy God and religious institutions can also canvass for membership to increase their sales. He expresses his dismay at most religions of the world and their levels of hypocrisy, particularly within the Pentecostal Christian community that is fragmenting into untold numbers and has turned into a tool of fraud and deceit; selling God, selling salvation, selling false dreams and false hopes; deploying stage- managed miracles as catch tools and also as tools of mind slavery. He is not comfortable with suicide bombers within the Islamic community who erroneously claim that such extreme level of ugliness will lead them into heaven. He says that the ways religious institutions are conducting themselves lately; we no longer know who created who; whether God created Man or Man created him for a purpose. According to the Christian Bible, Christ did say do unto others as you will have them do unto you; love one another hence the Author begs to know whether others and one another according to Christ mean all races and religious faiths since those golden rules are not being applied by those who told us about Christ. In the name of Capitalism and Materialism, Man has almost turned into a base animal hence making this earth look like a jungle where no rules apply and where conscience and love no more have a place. We live in times when Man create diseases and create their cures. The author believes that since most people especially Africans believe in the Bible information and Bible stories, and the Bible has it that the Pharaohs of Africa did enslave the Israelites in the past, then colonialism and slavery may be human nature and a form of revenge which one must also strive to resist. Colonialism seems to be a form of ugliness just like Apartheid, forceful dominance, slavery and other forms of Mans oppressions and inhumanity against fellow Man which happens from time to time in human history which humanity must also fight to outlive. The author disagrees with the notion that God chooses some people to rule over others, hence he believes that people choose themselves. According to the Christian Bible, Christ did say to his disciples that, greater things shall they do in his name, hence it is time that the so called Christian anointed men of God who are performing miracles only on church stages also walk on water for all to see. Unfortunately, the continent of Africa where it is said that civilization began, has more churches than factories yet the continent has failed to develop.

This book brilliantly answers several of life's questions that many people have but are too afraid to voice. The author is easy to understand as he walks the reader through the interconnecting philosophical pathways to turn the spotlight on the flaws and inconsistencies in many popularly held controversial beliefs - politics, religion, abortion, homosexuality, and more. It masterfully points out the pitfalls of believing a lie and the various techniques that people use to mislead us and control our lives. It helps you to properly analyze the dogmas that govern your life. The process helps to either reinforce those beliefs or invalidate them. This book is therefore a very powerful tool that helps everyone test the validity of a religion. It helps to cull false beliefs and protects against new erroneous ones. If after reading it people of faith still hold the same beliefs because the supporting irrefutable evidence they have pass the smell test, then they will feel more justified propagating their ideas. It helps to cement beliefs and make you more immune to brainwashing. This delightful book also highlights the fact we must never give control of the asylum to the inmates. It emphasizes that if we have already done so it is time to take it back. For more information or to contact us, visit us at: http://www.denjenpublishing.com

The search to establish what is true and real regarding creation, life, and metaphysical states has tormented the human mind for millennia and has instigated many intense discussions. It was a brightly moonlit, star-studded sky when the heavenly bodies instigated a similar discussion between two friendsPotes and Mitsos, the two characters of this book. Potes is aware of the animosity that political and theological discussions could bring about, even between two good friends, whenever they have deep-rooted philosophical differences in those subjects; and he would rather not have them. However, he is not afraid to express his opinion when goaded. Mitsos, on the other hand, is persistent and adamant in his religious beliefs, traditions, and in the existence of Almighty God. In the dialogue between the two, Potes projects his convictions using scientific facts as well as quotations from the Bible while Mitsos, a good and faithful Christian, questions his friends position not only using theological philosophies and traditions that have stood the test of time but also using in defense of his position Crito by Plato and The Clouds by Aristophanes. None of the two characters of the book is a monolith. The comments or questions of one cause the other to think before he responds, and the combination of the two induce questions into the readers mind as to who of the two is correct. The conversation is bold and daring, considering the time period and the religious and social environment that prevailed when it assumingly took place. For Potes, the scientist, more than Mitsos, the religion teacher, no religious matter is considered taboo to be excluded from discussion and for its validity not to be examined. The dialogue does not delve into the rudimentary bases of the Christian religion only but also into, among other thigs, the Greco-Roman gods, the existence of the soul, the four related supernatural events (miracles, apotheosis, resurrection, and ascension), Genesis of the old testament versus cosmogenesis (the Big Bang theory), biopoiesis, cosmotheism, autocracy versus democracy, and not the least, the efficacy of hope. This is a book that demands an open mind.

Zbigniew Alexander believes that blind faith, aka religion, directly or indirectly drives much of the turmoil and strife in the world. He submits that the God of these faiths does not exist. He did not create us, but we did Him. In the author's view, a stable future for mankind demands that we deconstruct religion the world over, starting in our own USA, where religion plays far too big a role compared to any other developed nation and where democracy should be our ally. Professing atheism should be a basic human right like professing any other religion and should be recognized as such across the world. Also, for a democracy to work, every voter should vote. Mr. Alexander urges vigorous participation in the upcoming general elections, particularly in the primaries, and encourages the secular segment of society, atheists included, to come out, step up, vote and seek leadership roles. Mr. Alexander makes his case in an eloquent, entertaining read from start to finish, first by showing why he feels a personal God is preposterous and how we created Him. He goes on to show how world and national affairs are adversely affected by religion. All this while respecting the various cultures and their faiths. Even if you disagree with his conclusions you will find it hard not to at least see where he is coming from, and have an enjoyable, challenging and informative read to boot!

Under his pseudonym John F Brinster, noted author of science, philosophy, and religion, has produced an important satirical novel directed to imaginative beliefs in an anthropomorphic god with explanations of the emotional mind and filled with lively characters. It pits the most respected logical mind of Oxford Professor Jeremiah B Cackelry III against the emotional minds of traditional believers. A mysterious Cackelry abduction results in attempts to identify perpetrators through a mathematical code. The religious world challenges Cackelry to a Paris Summit to present his religion, patterned after concepts of the author's former neighbor, Albert Einstein. His loyal assistant, Dr Anne Duchin, a neuroscientist and attractive tennis star, goes to his rescue. Dr Elaine Price, a disturbed lesbian assistant of equal beauty and of pathological belief, attempts to defend her god. Fiendish Dr Anton Schicter enters into an arrangement on the side of religions and plans an untraceable prefrontal leucotomy todestroy the professor's creativity . Meanwhile, a militant Transylvanian cult takes advantage of the fear of Dracula vampires and Frankenstein monsters to protect membership. Cackelry is not atheistic but determined to replace imaginative notions with reality, notions that he believes deter neural development of reason essential for peaceful coexistence. He succeeds in creating his god and the ultimate religion for Man. The setting is Switzerland decades beyond the present. Requested by the new Third Millennium U N with expanded power, Cackelry builds the World University to lead the world out of stagnation. He marries Anne but, upon his mysterious death, she abandons her narrow life to marry his eldest son, Jeremiah Cackelry IV, a banker in Basel. In a society, torn with religious conflict, replete with prejudices, and with beliefs and practices that challenge human reason, this book presents a breath of fresh air.

This book is not intended to drive people away from their religion, or denounce their beliefs in whatever God they believe in. It is simply aimed at waking up the Godly spirit we have all been infused with, recognizing it for what it is, and putting it to its ultimate use. Since the "invention" of religion and its twisted concept of God, human beings have been taught that they are of a subservient nature, and therefore servants to their God. It is as if man and woman beget children for their own gratification, and not so those children can forge their own path and destiny in life. Once the human spirit is liberated and lifted to the Godly heights it was destined to reach by its creator, wonderful things will happen, the least of them is true happiness on this earth.

And Man Created God presents a new theory of mytho-empiricism based on the mythological concepts of Claude Lévi-Strauss and the structuralism of Jeanne Piaget. The whole nature of mythogenes as the creative force linking history and transcendence is then elucidated. The corpus of myths in the books of Genesis and Exodus are presented in a new light and then compared with the Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Greek mythologies to highlight the Judaic myths with the pagan contrast.

Everyone who reads the Bible must admit that it tells us to do things that we never have done and cannot do in our fleshly bodies. One reason is that God our Creator is telling us what He wants us to be and do as created in His image and likeness. Our purpose is in our image and likeness of God our Creator, not like the dust of the ground or the flesh of our parents. Most children dont know that they are created in the image and likeness of God, and their parents have not asked God for His spirit for their children so they can be taught this vital truth. The reason parents dont ask God for His spirit for their children is because they dont recognize the need for Him. There are several things mankind cannot do in the flesh, and they must recognize their origin in the image and likeness of God. Mankind must recognize being in the image and likeness of God to, first, love God with all their being and love his neighbors as himself; second, to obey God and his parents as required in Gods word; third, to trust God with all his heart; fourth, to worship God in spirit and in truth; and fifth, to glorify God in his body and spirit, which are God. The devil does not want mankind to know that he is created in the image and likeness of God because man will always defeat Satan and fulfill God's will.
