You're about to embark on an adventure. Whether this is your first child or your fifth, you and your world are about to change forever! A parent is always a parent and your life´s path is about to take a sharp turn in a few months. The birth of a child is a miracle-one I´ve been privileged to share with thousands of families over 25 years in the delivery room. It is always a joy to bring a new life into the world and to see the faces of new parents as they look down at the newest member of the family for the first time. It´s a feeling that´s difficult to describe but shouldn´t be too hard to imagine. The birth of a child is the exquisite culmination of nature´s creative process. However, the creative process itself can be, well, it can be difficult. A nine-month pregnancy is filled with nature´s little surprises-morning sickness, aches where you never ached before, mood swings that frighten the cat and ´issues´ with everyone from the dad to your mother to your best friend who keeps telling you to "go natural." I see moms-to-be everyday in the office who are confronting pregnancy issues for the first, second or fifth time. I hear their stories and chart their complaints. Then, based on all of the other stories and experiences I´ve collected over the decades, I give the best advice I can to provide the most comfort-physical and emotional. Here´s a fact. Pregnancy isn´t easy. It´s hard on the mother´s body from conception through delivery and beyond. The female body completely and solely supports a human life for forty weeks. So even the so-called ´easy´ pregnancies come with their share of fatigue, pain and emotional gyrations. It´s a normal part of the process. So, what´s this book about? Well, first, it´s about you. The physical you, the emotional you, the professional you-even the financial you. Your pregnancy changes everything which means you have to be prepared for anything. Next, this book is about confidence and peace of mind. Yours, of course. Confidence and a lack of anxiety come with information, knowledge and explanation. The more you know about what lies ahead, the more confident and comfortable you´ll be. Third, this book is about the good health of you and your child. A healthy pregnancy is something for which you can prepare. In fact, a proactive approach to healthy pregnancy practices is your first job as a mommy. Welcome to the world of parenthood. Hard information on the latest in medical thought regarding diet, exercise and other lifestyle considerations will certainly increase the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy. But what about a happy pregnancy? Can hard information deliver a happy pregnancy? Look, there are a million books out there on the joy of pregnancy and how fulfilling and uplifting pregnancy is-all of which fly right out the window when you´re hugging the toilet with another bout of morning sickness. And, you´ve got to give a presentation in three hours. Not very joyous at that precise moment, you must admit. Of course, there´s endless joy in pregnancy. It´s undeniable and I´m blessed to see this joy first hand every day. But pregnancy isn´t always fulfilling, uplifting or the least bit joyous. I routinely have patients express their "feelings about morning sickness" all over me during an office exam. A patient fainting is all in a day´s work. It comes with the territory and it´s a downside of the joy of pregnancy. Happiness is difficult to define, but we all know it when we feel it. And that´s what this book is ultimately about-helping you find happiness during your pregnancy and on your journey through the trials and triumphs of impending parenthood. Survival guide, crystal ball, financial planner, exercise book, reference, comforter, healer and helper-that´s what this book is. Everything from "How did this happen?" to "Now what?" From how to tell your folks

Written by and for nurse practitioners, this practical textbook focuses on what primary care providers need to learn and practice drug therapy. With an overall emphasis on patient teaching and health promotion, you will learn how to provide effective patient teaching about medications and how to gain patient compliance. Drug coverage focuses on “key drugs rather than “prototype drugs, so you can find important information about the most commonly used drugs rather than the first drug in each class. You will also find discussions on the legal and professional issues unique to nurse practitioners and other primary care providers. The 3rd edition also features an expanded emphasis on established clinical practice guidelines and evidence-based practice, plus two new chapters that cover drugs for ADHD and drugs for dementia. Covers specific topics such as prescriptive authority, role implementation, and writing prescriptions. Identifies the Top 200 drugs in chapter openers with a special icon and covers them in-depth to familiarize you with the most important, need-to-know drug information. Uses a consistent heading scheme for each prototype drug discussion to make it easier to learn and understand key concepts. Includes an introductory chapter on “Design and Implementation of Patient Education that highlights content on patient teaching and compliance. Includes specific “Patient Education sections in each drug chapter. Provides extensive coverage of drug therapy for special populations to alert you to special considerations based on age, pregnancy, race and other factors. A separate chapter on “Complementary and Alternative Therapies discusses the available complementary and alternative modalities, including detailed information on actions, uses, and interactions of commonly used herbs. Drug Overview tables at the beginning of each chapter outline the classifications of drugs discussed and provide a handy reference of drug classes and subclasses, generic names, and trade names. Clinical Alerts highlight essential information that primary care providers must remember in order to avoid serious problems, including cautions for prescribing, information about drug interactions, or warnings about particularly ominous adverse effects. An entire unit covers drugs for health promotion to introduce you to drugs commonly seen in outpatient primary care settings and to prepare you for practice in a society increasingly focused on health promotion and disease prevention. Book Review Author Advocates Healthy Lifestyle and Disease Prevention to start from the Womb and dieting to begin in the Crib New Health Book, written in easy-to-understand laymans term, provides thought-provoking and valuable health reference designed to change lives of individuals and society as a whole through good pre-emptive and proactive social initiatives and more responsible parenting for healthy lifestyle and disease prevention, which the cardiac surgeon author says must start in the womb and safe dieting should begin in the crib, to maximize their full potential in achieving their goals. XLIBRIS - (PRWEB) August 29, 2011 What is the best strategy to prevent diseases? Cardiac Surgeon Emeritus in Northwest Indiana Dr. Philip S. Chua attempts to provide resolution to this issue as he presents Lets Stop Killing Our Children, a valuable, inspiring, and innovative 794-page health guide that focuses on disease prevention starting from ground zero, and highlights the fundamental obligation parents and society have in teaching children how to life a healthy lifestyle by setting good examples early on. This revolutionary concept puts the onus squarely on society, parents and guardians of young children, who are totally at the mercy of society and of these adults, whose good or bad examples, habits and behaviors will inevitably be emulated by the children. It is in the first five formative years of the children and up to age 12 when instilling proper discipline and behavioral modification are most effective, states this heart surgeon. Almost all diseases known to man are self-induced and are, therefore, preventableMost of us seemed to have unwittingly programmed our mindset and behavior to a self-destruct and slow-suicide modethis negative surrender and fatalistic attitude are what this book aims to change, Dr. Chua critically pointed out in his book. An international health advocate and writer, Dr. Philip S. Chua, in this book of information, philosophy and principles, poses this great challenge to society as a whole in his belief that most diseases known to man are self-induced through self-abuse. It is important that both society as a whole and parents play their essential role of doing what is right for the children, way before age 5 to save these young lives from avoidable morbidity and premature death as they grow to middle age and beyond. After all, says Dr. Chua, the race does not start in the middle. The author points out that autopsy findings on children, as young as 4-5 who were victims of accidents, already had evidence of arteriosclerosis (hardening of their arteries) which we see in adultswe must be doing something wrong. "Are we losing the war on diseases because we are starting late and lagging far behind in this race?" ponders the cardiac surgeon. Dr. Chua, in his book, strongly suggests for parents and society as a whole to practice this novel pre-emptive and proactive health concept even before conception to achieve a healthier family, a healthier citizenry, and thus a healthier nation. "Since, we have not really significantly succeeded in our war against many diseases over the past half a century, the medical community and society as a whole need to seriously re-evaluate of our current conventional strategy in dealing with health and disease prevention, if we are to contain, if not eradicate, the common diseases afflicting man around the world today, including hypertension, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and even cancer," admonishes the author. This pre-emptive health strategy could forever change the role of parents and society in our quest for health, well-being, happiness, and longevity. This challenging and stimulating coffee-table book of wisdom is a must-read. Every home deserves one.
