Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Company formation, Business Plans, grade: 1,3, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen (Department for Business Administration with the focus on Technology, Innovation and Startup Management), language: English, abstract: Facing the progressive digitalization process as well as the increasing resources allocated from the European Union to promote digital basic competences on the one hand and support the growth opportunities of the European Digital Economy on the other hand, the purpose of the present study is to explore the interplay between perceived digital skills, entrepreneurial self-efficacy beliefs, and the intention to start-up a business venture on the individual-level. Based on the theory of planned behavior extended by the social cognitive career theory, self-efficacy beliefs play a crucial role in the development of entrepreneurial intentions and, ultimately, entrepreneurial behavior. Perceived digital skills may shape this relationship through an interaction mechanism as a source of self-efficacy expectations. In order to make perceived digital skills measurable, a multidimensional scale was developed on basis of the DigComp Framework published by the European Commission. An explorative and confirmative factor analysis was performed to ensure a consistent and reliable scale. Based on a sample with 181 German Master's students, collected and analyzed data (OLS Regression) reveal that entrepreneurial self-efficacy beliefs and perceived digital skills have a direct and significant effect on entrepreneurial intentions. A moderation effect of perceived digital skills could not be verified. After testing a mediation model, however, the relationship between perceived digital skills and entrepreneurial intentions is partially mediated by entrepreneurial self-efficacy beliefs. The results highlight the importance of the acquisition and perception of a broad set of digital skills as a relevant dr

This illustrative book considers the interface of business structures, contexts, and leadership building blocks to explore the contingent nature of leadership development in transgenerational entrepreneurship. Longitudinal case studies of 27 family firms in nine different countries provide a rich, global selection of leadership development insights by examining the roles of values, professionalization, leadership style and other contingent factors. The diversity of cases and chapters provides a rich foundation for insight into the pathways currently in use to develop the next generation leaders, illuminating the strategies and pathways of successful transgenerational family enterprises. By examining the available literature and one or more case studies, each chapter draws pragmatic conclusions, with findings that suggest the importance of focusing on leadership as a shared capability, transmission of values to maintain an entrepreneurial culture, the fit between professionalization and values to increase transgenerational potential, the need to address the structure of the business and the focus on parenting to develop next generations. This path-breaking book will inform family business researchers as they explore the ways in use to develop the next generation. Each chapter starts with a mini-case study focused on a dilemma related to leader development, making this book an excellent resource for educators in undergraduate, graduate, or executive programs.

Discover What Makes Family Businesses Beat the Odds and Thrive over Generations Families are complicated; family businesses even more so. Like other companies, family-run enterprises must develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills. But they must also manage family dynamics that rarely mirror the best practices in the latest Harvard Business Review. Allan Cohen and Pramodita Sharma, scholars with deep professional and personal roots in family businesses, show how enterprising families can transmit the hunger for excellence across generations. Using examples of firms that flourished and those that failed, they describe the practices that characterize entrepreneurial individuals, families, and organizations and offer pragmatic advice that can be tailored to your unique situation.

A generations expert and author of When Generations Collide and The M-Factor teams up with his seventeen-year-old son to introduce the next influential demographic group to join the workforce—Generation Z—in this essential study, the first on the subject. They were born between between 1995 and 2012. At 72.8 million strong, Gen Z is about to make its presence known in the workplace in a major way—and employers need to understand the differences that set them apart. They’re radically different than the Millennials, and yet no one seems to be talking about them—until now. This generation has an entirely unique perspective on careers and how to succeed in the workforce. Based on the first national studies of Gen Z’s workplace attitudes; interviews with hundreds of CEOs, celebrities, and thought leaders on generational issues; cutting-edge case studies; and insights from Gen Zers themselves, Gen Z @ Work offers the knowledge today’s leaders need to get ahead of the next gaps in the workplace and how best to recruit, retain, motivate, and manage Gen Zers. Ahead of the curve, Gen Z @ Work is the first comprehensive, serious look at what the next generation of workers looks like, and what that means for the rest of us.
