What happened to that girl? What happened to the girl who was not afraid to climb to the top of the waterfall and jump. Who backpacked across Europe? Who took on any “feat of bravery” without batting an eyelash? You wouldn’t recognize her – she’s become that woman paralyzed by fear, scared to death to trust God, and trying to manage her family’s hectic life, financial crises (yes, plural), and family issues on her own steam. Asking always, “Does God truly love me?” Relatable, touching, and yet hopeful On the Other Side of Fear is the beautiful story of how one young woman learned to live in God’s will, without fear.

From a homeschooling mom and SiriusXM radio host who has endured eleven moves in fifteen years comes a highly relatable and insightful reexamination of the concept of home and what it means to nurture your roots—wherever they’re currently planted. When Hallie Lord imagined her future, she dreamed of a beautiful home on a small plot of land where she and her family would put down roots—ones that would grow deep over many decades. Instead, her reality became eleven moves in fifteen years—with eight babies along the way! As a SiriusXM radio host and highly-sought after speaker, Hallie often travels the country, sharing the story of her own evolving notion of what makes a home and her struggle to make peace with a life that looks nothing like the one she had imagined. Along the way, she has been surprised to find that what she thought was a unique experience is actually shared by women everywhere. Over and over, Hallie’s fans have shared that they, too, have longed for a permanent place to call home, but found that seemingly simple dream much more elusive to attain than they ever imagined. Many speak of feeling like outsiders in their own community—even after living in the same neighborhood for decades. In her irresistible and funny voice, Hallie reveals the secrets to finding joy and a sense of belonging in spite of her family’s nomadic existence. Through graceful and charming essays, Hallie shares the lessons that God taught her about finding home—even when deep roots are impossible to cultivate. For anyone who has ever struggled to find a sense of place, Dwell provides inspiration and encouragement to accept change and recognize what matters most.

"I found it (the story) at first sad and tragic, all the more to be uplifted by its outcome. What better ever proof of a miracle, of the value of family support, of the power of faith, of the hand of God, of the unpredictability of life. All in all it's a wonderful piece to read. What's more, you make readers care, because the woman and her family, including the convincing and articulate narrator, Dr. Henry, become real people in readers' minds, people they know well enough to worry about, to cheer for. I came to feel, thanks to Dr. Joel Hilaire's sharp and rich writing, that I was one of those people, close to the family, involved in every down-and-up event. To my mind you achieved exactly what you were after with this extensive true-to-life story."-Lou Fisher, from Long Ridge Writers Group

Early work in conflict resolution and peace research focused on why wars broke out, why they persisted, and why peace agreements failed to endure. Later research has focused on what actions and circumstances have actually averted destructive escalations, stopped the perpetuation of destructive conduct, produced a relatively good conflict transformation, or resulted in an enduring and relatively equitable relationship among former adversaries. This later research, which began in the 1950s, recognizes that conflict is inevitable and is often waged in the name of rectifying injustice. Additionally, it argues that damages can be minimized and gains maximized for various stakeholders in waging and settling conflicts. This theory, which is known as the constructive conflict approach, looks at how conflicts can be waged and resolved so they are broadly beneficial rather than mutually destructive. In this book, Louis Kriesberg, one of the major figures in the school of constructive conflict, looks at major foreign conflict episodes in which the United States has been involved since the onset of the Cold War to analyze when American involvement in foreign conflicts has been relatively effective and beneficial and when it has not. In doing so he analyzes whether the US took constructive approaches to conflict and whether the approach yielded better consequences than more traditional coercive approaches. Realizing Peace helps readers interested in engaging or learning about foreign policy to better understand what has happened in past American involvement in foreign conflicts, to think freshly about better alternatives, and to act in support of more constructive strategies in the future.

Well-intentioned people, such as Bono and John Lennon, have for years implored us to stop killing each other in much the same manner family members have begged alcoholics to stop drinking. Perhaps we are addicted to war and violence and, like alcoholics, we need more than to simply stop; we needed to find a new design for living. The 12 Steps have been instrumental in changing the lives of over 3 million alcoholics in over 77 countries, regardless of religious faith. Those who once knew only chaos, pain and suffering have discovered peace, as a result of these Steps. Consider the Steps as a recipe for peace. Should they fail to produce the desire results we will refund your misery and you may return to killing at your leisure.
