Hermann Cohen's writings on Judaism constitute a landmark in the history of modern religious thought. Cohen (1842-1918) taught first at Marburg University and then at the Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums in Berlin. Renowned originally as the founder and most prominent representative of the so-called neo-Kantian school of philosophy (or, as he called it, critical idealism), Cohen gradually came to see a close affinity between the ideas and ideals of the Jewish prophets and those of classical Greek and German idealism, a spiritual kinship he stressed throughout his later years. Although he was not conventionally religious, Cohen repeatedly stressed his belief in Judaism's "absolute" monotheism, a religion based equally on faith and reason and grounded in the concept of One God. The contents of this anthology have been culled from Cohen's Jewish Writings, a three-volume collection of essays and addresses published posthumously in 1924 in Berlin.

During the last two decades there has been a renaissance in the field of Christian philosophy. Unfortunately, most of this excellent work has not reached general readers. Reason for the Hope Within was produced specifically to make available the best of contemporary Christian philosophy in a clear, accessible -- and highly relevant -- manner. Fourteen of America's rising Christian philosophers here cover many of the traditional themes of Christian apologetics (arguments for the existence of God, the problem of evil, the possibility of miracles) as well as topics of special relevance to today's world (Eastern religions, Christianity and science, Christianity and ethics, the existence of heaven and hell).

" Reason to Hope is a true story of a young woman born into the privileged life of a white, middle class family in South Africa at the height of apartheid. Despite having a bright future with a promising career and prospects of marriage, she decides to forsake the freedoms, comforts, and pleasures of this world to follow God in poverty, chastity, and obedience - for the salvation of souls - inspired by the message of Fatima of 1917. Eventually, after a convoluted journey taking her across continents, she would become a temporary professed sister in the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Emotional, thoughtful, and spiritually enlightening, Reason to Hope describes the pivotal moments of Amanda's life with honesty and openness. With humility she shows the reader what she believes and why - even all these years later. This book is perfect for those who are curious about faith, religious life, spirituality, Mother Teresa, Catholicism or even just a different side of life that is rarely portrayed in our modern times. Its call to hope is an inspiration for all."

In the light of the threats posed to Christianity by militant Islam, intolerant secularism, and widespread misinformation (The Da Vinci Code, the Jesus Seminar, etc.), the necessity of informed and articulate defense of the Christian faith today can hardly be contested. Reasons for Our Hope offers a sophisticated yet accessible guide to "destroying speculations and every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthian 10:5). The book's 31 chapters are divided into four sections: Apologetics Methodologies and Systems, Apologetics in Scripture and in History, Apologetic Problems, How to Use Apologetics in Engaging the World.

What is the most hopeful word in History? For Billy Graham, that word is SALVATION. Salvation from what? From our selfish and self-destructive selves. From the messes we get ourselves into. From the sin that has haunted humanity from the beginning of time and the evil that pulls us down every day. From the cultural deceits that blind us to God's saving message. From the Hell so many don't believe in. If we don't think we need salvation, we're fooling ourselves. If we think we are beyond salvation, we're underestimating God. If we just don't want to think about salvation, we're putting ourselves in eternal peril. At the age of ninety-five Billy Graham proclaims God's Gospel with resolve and deep compassion. It is a message he has been preaching for more than seventy years. And in this book you will sense its urgency, filled with hope for the future. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31) From America's evangelistic elder statesman: Salvation is what we all long for, when we are lost or in danger or have made a mess of our lives. And salvation belongs to us, when we reach out for the only One who can rescue us, Jesus. The saving message of the Gospel is the heartbeat of this preacher and evangelist. Millions around the world have heard Billy Graham proclaim this unchanging truth. He has never forgotten the transformation of his own life, when he first said yes to God's gift of salvation, and he has witnessed multitudes turn their hearts to the God of Hope. The Reason for My Hope: Salvation presents the essence of that transformative message. It is biblical and timeless, and though simple and direct, it is far from easy. There are hard words, prophetic words, directed toward a culture that denies the reality of sin and distracts us from the veracity of Hell. But through its ominous warnings shines a light that cannot be extinguished, a beacon of hope that Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10).
