Much has been written about the mysterious underground world that lies beneath the streets of London but few have ever had the opportunity to see so many aspects of it first-hand and make a detailed photographic record of all that they have seen. This is one of the two factors that make this book so different from all the others that have come before it. The second factor is the meticulous research that has gone into ensuring that the history and background narrative to each of the locations described and illustrated are both concise and accurate.

An exploration of the abandoned tributaries of London's vast and vital transportation network through breathtaking images and unexpected stories Hidden London is a lavishly illustrated history of disused and repurposed London Underground spaces. It provides the first narrative of a previously secret and barely understood aspect of London's history. Behind locked doors and lost entrances lies a secret world of abandoned stations, redundant passageways, empty elevator shafts, and cavernous ventilation ducts. The Tube is an ever-expanding network that has left in its wake hidden places and spaces. Hidden London opens up the lost worlds of London's Underground and offers a fascinating analysis of why Underground spaces--including the deep-level shelter at Clapham South, the closed Aldwych station, the lost tunnels of Euston--have fallen into disuse and how they have been repurposed. With access to previously unseen archives, architectural drawings, and images, the authors create an authoritative account of London's hidden Underground story. This surprising and at times myth-breaking narrative interweaves spectacular, newly commissioned photography of disused stations and Underground structures today.

With a foreword by Iain Sinclair. London is an ancient city, whose foundation dates back literally thousands of years into the legendary prehistory of these islands. Not surprisingly it has accumulated a large number of stories, both historic and mythical, during this period, many of which, though faithfully recorded at the time, have lain almost forgotten in dusty libraries throughout the city. The Secret Lore of London is a guide to the legends, including a discussion of their importance as part of the oral tradition of Britain, combining Prehistoric, Celtic, Arthurian, Roman, Saxon and Norman levels - each of which has contributed to the many-layered life of the city. The first part contains a unique selection of essays (some printed here for the first time) by experts in their fields, each of whom possesses a unique interest in the legends of these islands, and who have written widely on associated themes. The second part of the book will consist of a Gazetteer of the sites mentioned which are still in existence, together with various other sites of associated interest, compiled by the Editor, the contributors, and members of the London Earth Mysteries Group. This part will be fully updated and extended to include many more sites. The result is a wide ranging and wholly fascinating book, with wide sales application possible. A series of appendixes will include William Stukley's extraordinary document The Brill, which relates to the ancient prehistoric sites around the area of present day St. Pancras, and excerpts from some of the best known 19th and early 20th century works on Legendary London by Lewis Spence and Harold Bayley Contributors to the book are: Nigel Pennick John Matthews Caroline Wise Caitlín Matthews Carol Clancy R.J. "Nuclear Bunkers" tells the previously undisclosed story of the secret defence structures built by the West during the Cold War years. The book describes in fascinating detail a vast umbrella of radar stations that spanned the North American continent and the north Atlantic from the Aleutian islands through Canada to the North Yorkshire moors, all centred upon an enormous secret control centre buried hundreds of feet below Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado. This is complemented in the United Kingdom with a chain of secret radars codenamed 'Rotor' built in the early 1950's, and eight huge, inland sector control centres, built over 100' underground at enormous cost. The book reveals the various bunkers built for the U.S Administration, including the Raven Rock alternate war headquarters (the Pentagon's wartime hideout), the Greenbrier bunker for the Senate and House of Representatives, and the Mount Weather central government headquarters amongst others. Developments in Canada, including the Ottawa 'Diefenbunker' and the regional government bunkers are also studied. In the UK there were the London bunkers and the Regional War rooms built in the 1950's to protect against the Soviet threat, and their replacement in 1958 by much more hardened, underground Regional Seats of Government in the provinces, and the unique Central Government War Headquarters at Corsham. Also included in the UK coverage is the UK Warning and Monitoring Organisation with its underground bunkers and observation posts, as well as the little known bunkers built by the various local authorities and by the public utilities. Finally the book examines the provision, (or more accurately, lack of provision), of shelter space for the general population, comparing the situation in the USA and the UK with some other European countries and with the Soviet Union.

A chilling adventure beneath the streets of London where WWII-era bombs, government conspiracies, and science—gone very very wrong—collide. Beneath the streets of London lie many secrets. Subterranean rivers carve channels through darkened caverns. Hidden laboratories and government offices from WWII offer a maze of corridors and abandoned medical experiments. Lost in the depths are the contents of a looted Spanish galleon from the days of Henry VIII. And even deeper lies a Nazi V-2 rocket that contains the most horrible secret of all. Carmen Kingsley, in charge of London projects for the British Museum, and Scotland Yard Inspector Sherwood Peets race to unravel the mysteries before the great city succumbs to the English Sweat, a frightening disease from the age of the Henrys. Unknown to them, their partners in tracing the disease began their own efforts more than sixty years earlier during WWII when a top secret British mission is sent to the far northern regions of Norway to stop the Nazis from developing a biological weapon that was to be airmailed to London via the V-2 rocket. It all comes to a climax beneath the city with the discovery of a horrifying species of genetically altered “super rats” that threaten to invade London and the British Isles in a manner more horrifying than anything ever envisioned by the Germans. When she leaves Innsmouth Academy to join with the Templars, Blodwedd "Wedd" Mallory hopes to finish her training and be assigned to the field as an agent like her mother. But, will her chances be sidelined by Special Assignment Supervisor Dame Julia and Master-of-Arms Brigadier Lethe when a deadly supernatural bomb in Tokyo throws the world into an uproar and her mother goes missing? A thousand years ago, knights gathered in the Holy Land, drawn to the purported site of the First Temple, King Solomon's Temple. From all over Christendom, men heeded the call for brave, true fighters to protect those pilgrims who could not protect themselves. To defend the values of their way of life. To cast the infidels out. Brave. True. Templar. Blodwedd Mallory is not yet a Templar, but she wants to be.She wants to fight dragons and knows they can be beaten. She's heard the stories."For England and St. George!" What Wedd has forgotten is that back in those days, knighthood was granted by the rulers of the kingdoms, by those who wanted land and power for themselves. She has already received a higher calling from Gaia to look beyond the mundane into the hidden magical corners of the secret world. To hear the buzzing of the anima and traverse the world tree, Agartha. To rise up and join those like her to protect humanity. To push back the gathering forces of darkness threatening life everywhere. Wedd may get what she thinks she wants. She may even have the chance to prove she's brave and true, fight the war against darkness, and cast enemies from the Temple. But, she has already received a higher calling--from Gaia herself. Wedd just doesn't know what that means yet.
