Now in its 7th printing since republication in 1997, the Sefer Yetzirah has established itself as a primary source for all serious students of Kabbalah. He expounds on the dynamics of the spiritual domain, the worlds of Sefirot, souls and angels. This translation is based on Gra version of the Sefer Yetzirah and includes the author's extraordinary commentary on all its mystical aspects including kabbalistic astrology, Ezekiel's vision and the 231 gates. Also included are three alternative versions to make this volume the most complete work on the Sefer Yetzirah available in English.

Considered to be the oldest known Jewish mystical text now an important part of Cabalistic studies. It first appeared in historical records during the first century C.E., but its principles had been passed down for centuries before this, with Jewish scholars believing that the patriarch Abraham had received the teachings directly.

The Sepher Yetzirah, or Book of Formation, although very short, is probably the most important of the Kabalistic texts. Its secrets were passed on in the Hebrew oral tradition until it was written down in the 2nd century b.c.e. It lays out the principles of Kabalistic cosmology and the Tree of Life, how humankind (the microcosm) reflects the Divine (the macrocosm). It also sets forth the Hebrew doctrine of Logos--the creation of the world in numbers, letters, and sound. As such, it is a seminal text for all serious magicians. Stenring has made a word-for-word translation from several texts, choosing only those parts which he believed to be authentic. He reveals the text's secrets in his diagrams, tables, and extensive notes. His "Master Key to the Theoretical and Practical Kabala" is a diagram of the correspondences between the English and Hebrew alphabets and is not found in other translations of the Sepher Yetzirah. Also unique in this translation is Stenring's assignment of certain tarot cards to the paths on the Tree of Life. Several authors have done this before, but Stenring asserts that he arrived at his correspondences on his own. The introduction by Waite surveys the historical background of the Sepher Yetzirah translations and the import of this foundational Kabbalistic text.

2019 Reprint of 1923 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Sefer, Book of Formation, or Book of Creation is the title of the earliest extant book on Jewish esotericism, although some early commentators treated it as a treatise on mathematical and linguistic theory as opposed to Kabbalah. Yetzirah is more literally translated as "Formation"; the word Briah is used for "Creation". The book is traditionally ascribed to the patriarch Abraham, although others attribute its writing to Rabbi Akiva. Modern scholars have not reached consensus on the question of its origins. According to Rabbi Saadia Gaon, the objective of the book's author was to convey in writing from a Jewish perspective how the things of our universe came into existence. Translated from the Hebrew, with annotations by Knut Stenring. Includes the 32 paths of wisdom, their correspondence with the Hebrew alphabet and the Tarot symbols and with an introduction by Arthur Edward Waite.

The Sepher Yetzirah is one of the main and most important works of Kabbalah. Referenced by other works such as the Bahir, it is broken apart into a series of statements on the Hebrew alphabet and numeric systems. Among other concepts it expounds the concept of creation via the three mothers; Alef, Mem, and Shin, and their relative powers. It is one of the most integral works from which such types of occultism stem.

The Fundamentals of Jewish Mysticism: The Book of Creation and Its Commentaries provides its readers with the background necessary to grasp the profound ideas of Jewish mystical theology. The modern student is often unable to crack open a kabbalistic text due to insufficient knowledge of the Hebrew language or a lack of basic information. Leonard R. Glotzer carefully guides the nonspecialist through a primary text of Kabbalah, the result being not a book about Jewish mysticism, but a book of Kabbalah itself. The structure of The Fundamentals of Jewish Mysticism is based on the author's translation of Sefer Yetzirah, known as The Book of Creation, one of the oldest and most important of kabbalistic texts. Many kabbalistic ideas appear for the first time in The Book of Creation, and it has served as a point of departure for all subsequent kabbalistic works. The importance of The Book of Creation is reflected in the fact that some of the greatest names in Jewish history have written commentaries on it, including Saadia Gaon, Nachmanides, and Rabbi Elijah, the Vilna Gaon. Many Jewish sages have commented on The Book of Creation in their own writings, among them Yehuda Halevi and Abraham ibn Ezra. Glotzer, observing that for many students today these commentaries are too difficult to understand, has provided us with a commentary on these commentaries and gives enough background and history to make The Book of Creation a wellspring of inspiration. By offering us a modern translation of The Book of Creation as well as translations of large parts of its major classical commentaries, Glotzer clearly illustrates his view that "Kabbalah is more of a process than a result." In addition, he presents the different approaches of the kabbalists throughout the centuries and the reasons why they differ, along with clear discussions of the major schools of Jewish mysticism, including the schools of the Ari (Yitzchak Luria) and Moses Cordovero. The Fundamentals of Jewish Mysticism is an important contribution to the ongoing pursuit of Jewish mystical knowledge. It is sure to become a crucial text for beginners and specialists alike.

The "Sepher Yetzirah," or "Book of Formation," is perhaps the oldest Rabbinical treatise of Kabalistic philosophy which is still extant, but it is not in any sense a narrative of Creation, or a substitute Genesis, but is an ancient and instructive philosophical treatise upon one aspect of the origin of the universe and mankind; an aspect at once archaic and essentially Hebrew. || The Collectanea Hermetica is a 10 volume set of Occult Hermetic books edited by William Wynn Westcott. The volumes are as follows: 1) Hermetic Arcanum, 2) The Divine Pymander, 3) A Short Enquiry Concerning the Hermetic Art, 4) sch Mezareph, 5) Somnium Scipionis, 6) Chaldan Oracles of Zoroaster, 7) Euphrates, or the Waters of the East, 8) Egyptian Magic, 9) Numbers, 10) Sepher Yetzirah. || The volumes include several original translations, commentaries, and copious notes. It is a valuable resource for all students of Hermeticism, Alchemy, Kabalah and western esotericism in general.

The ?Sepher Yetzirah, ? or ?Book of Formation, ? is perhaps the oldest philosophical treatise which is yet extant in the Hebrew language. The great interest which has been evinced of late years in the Hebrew Kabalah, and the modes of thought and doctrine allied to it, has induced me to translate this volume from the original Hebrew texts, and to collate with them the Latin versions of mediaeval authorities. Three important books of the ?Zohar, ? or ?Splendour, ? which is the great storehouse of Kabalistic teaching, have been for the first time translated into English by that skilful and erudite Kabalist, my fellow student in occult science, MacGregor Mathers, and the ?Sepher Yetzirah? in an English translation is almost a necessary companion to these even more abstruse disquisitions: the two books indeed mutually explain each ot

This revised and renamed edition of Ancient Secrets of Creation, captures the earliest meanings and contexts of the philosophy, theology, and magic presented by Sepher Yetzirah by basing the translations, interpretations, and explanations on texts and ideas existing during or before the tenth century C.E., when the first commentary on Sepher Yetzirah appeared. This is an important component of what distinguishes Sepher Yetzirah: The Book That Started Kabbalah from other recent translations and commentaries, which draw on doctrines and beliefs unknown at the time of Sepher Yetzirah's composition. Another distinguishing feature is the author's search for the answer to the question "why?" Those familiar with Kabbalah know, for example, the Hebrew letters aleph, mem, and shin as the mother letters, but why these three letters and not another set of three letters? Why also are there ten sephirot and not, say, nine or eleven? Why were the twelve simple letters assigned their specific roles and not different roles? Sepher Yetzirah: The Book That Started Kabbalah is divided into two parts. The first part is called Foundation, and its two chapters lay out the Greek philosophical and Jewish theological bases for the material found in Sepher Yetzirah. The second part, called Wisdom, is a translation of and commentary on Sepher Yetzirah's six chapters. The first chapter gives a description of the ten sephirot and their relationship to God and creation; the second, explains the general operation and control of the twenty-two Hebrew letters; the third through fifth chapters describe the specific functions and governances of the three mother letters, seven double letters, and twelve simple letters, respectively. The final chapter offers a summary of all the ideas and concepts expounded by Sepher Yetzirah. In Sepher Yetzirah: The Book That Started Kabbalah the author expands on his original work by relating the interconnections among the mathematical rules, alphabetical laws, and uncanny coincidences found between Sepher Yetzirah and the natural world, all of which are symbolisms in support of Sepher Yetzirah's assertions. Endeavoring to show an inexorable link between the mystical topics presented by Sepher Yetzirah and Judaism, many paragraphs begin with a quote from the Hebrew Bible paralleling the essence of Sepher Yetzirah's message. The Epilogue links Sepher Yetzira's ideas and concepts with modern science's metaphors about creation. Also provided is a glossary of important terms, a version of Sepher Yetzirah in its original Hebrew, and an index. Sepher Yetzirah cries out that everything in the cosmos is part of a network of associations in which God, His creations, and the universe are a unified whole. The profound secrets in Sepher Yetzirah, which are shared with the reader in this edition, disclose natural harmonies, fundamental constants, and unique imagery as evidence of God's benevolence. Sepher Yetzirah divulges how God performed His creative acts and left veiled signs in nature, relationships for those who care to look and understand.

The hidden Son of Man is inside of us all, but we have to realize that we are losing the ability to visualize the immeasurable, infinite source of spirituality. Traditional religions state that Adam is a fallen, debased creature and science says we can recreate ourselves in the image of Science in order to rise and evolve. Ancient mystic scientists once complemented spirituality with scientific observations and discoveries. Can we learn how to live in higher dimensions through divine symbols and scientific discoveries? Einstein's theories change the way scientists view the nature of Time and the origin of the Universe. Ancient mystics after Enoch claim that the Universe is alive and that science mystics' recorded their scientific theories in the Sefer Yetzirah [Book of Creation]. New superstring theories actually confirm what ancient mystics discovered through spiritual journeys to the dimensions of higher space. M-Theory states that there are 11 dimensions and that the dimension we inhabit has been separated from the higher dimensions. Science cannot currently reach the higher dimensions or branes'; however it might be within the reach of ancient scientific concepts found in the Sefer Yetzirah. Spiritual concepts may still be invisible, but now scientific concepts can help make them visible through the concepts of quantum mechanics.

Rabbi Jill Hammer has taken ancient Jewish mystical text and transformed it into a contemporary guide for meditative practice. In Return to the Place, Rabbi Hammer guides the reader through the story of creation as the ancient text of the Sefer Yetzirah draws readers in and invites them to become participants in the book's vibrant incantations, bringing the Creator's sacred energy into the world. The Sefer Yetzirah is a creation story like none other, describing the creation of the world in cryptic, mystical, poetic text. Rabbi Jill Hammer has taken a fresh look at this text that scholars believe goes back to the sixth century CE, embracing this text with healing intention. Through guided meditations at each step along the way, Rabbi Hammer allows readers to dig deeply into the text to experience the potential power of these ancient writings. Hammer builds a thought-provoking bridge from the past to the present-translating the text and focusing on its key aspects to give readers a relevant focus for contemplation. Advance Praise "Sefer Yetzirah has been called the foundational text of Jewish mysticism, but despite many scholarly attempts to explain it, readers still find its language baffling and its message indecipherable. Now Rabbi Jill Hammer has clarified the text for us all. Without ruining its mystery, she reveals its cosmic vision of 'space, time, and body-soul.' Beyond this, she has created a new-ancient meditative practice based on this mystical masterpiece. Her superb achievement is a gift for all of us!" -Dr. Daniel Matt, author of The Essential Kabbalah: The Heart of Jewish Mysticism "A tour de force -at once scholarly, whimsical, deeply poetic, and eminently accessible. Hammer combines translation, commentary, and meditations with her uniquely seasoned sensibility, one that balances feminine and masculine, sensual and philosophical." -Rabbi Tirzah Firestone, author of The Receiving: Reclaiming Jewish Women's Wisdom "Rabbi Hammer, one of the most original religious guides of our time, opens up for us a text that has fascinated mystics and philosophers for more than a millennium - and yet has remained deeply mysterious. Return to the Place shows us that the Sefer Yetzirah is a 'doorway into the deep structure of creation'-with the power to transform the cosmos as well as each person's most intimate experience." -Dr. Nathaniel Berman, author of Divine and Demonic in the Poetic Mythology of the Zohar "Like its subject, the mysterious Book of Creation, Return to the Place brilliantly defies categorization. It is a detailed commentary, a bold spirit-guide, and a valuable work of scholarship. It is both audacious and perspicacious. And no one could have written it but Rabbi Dr. Jill Hammer." -Rabbi Dr. Jay Michaelson, author of Everything is God: The Radical Path of Non-Dual Judaism
