Born Unloved is inspired by a true story. Pierre wrote this autobiography book to help people fully understand the importance of unconditional love to humanity. His mother never loved him. His father abandoned him. Darkness of fear paralyzed his heart. His speech impediment frustrated him. His grandmother had no vision for him. Bitter days awaited him. Demons poisoned his soul. He was mistaken for a problem child. Loneliness angered him. He drowned in depression. Born in one country but raised in another, Pierre’s bilingual childhood explains the conflict between three different cultures. While his life could have been born unloved in any nation of this world, Pierre’s life still adapted to God’s plans that encourages and edifies his character. On the road of gaining spiritual growth, his life led to a detour where the language of love is uncommon. He learns to rebuild the street culture by spreading the message of love that saved him from death. His vision is to enlighten and edify everyone with the language of love. Supreme wisdom guided Pierre even when he least expected. After falling in love with the gift of encouragement, his heart feels alive again. Without unconditional love, Pierre would not have overcome the emotional pains he endured since his childhood. He forgave his dysfunctional family and those who mistreated and neglected him. Love is a blessing. Let it shine on earth. Everyone needs to be thirsty for love. Let the words of love be written on your heart.

As lawyers, we must not, in hot pursuit of common law, outrun common sense. The dread of that eventuality prompted this book. Learned Writing promotes common sense in legal language. Plain language, which is commonsensical, broadens access to legal documents, thus democratizing the law. If democracy is government of the people, by the people, and for the people, law is the language in which government interacts with the people—it is the language of democracy. The people whose government speaks through law must understand what is said. No democratic society should brook legalese, a dense, verbose dialect known only to lawyers. What then should society do to redress the lawyer-induced obscurity? A Shakespearean character had an alarming proposal: “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” Apparently, that proposal was not enthusiastically endorsed, which explains why we’re still here. A milder remedy—enrolling lawyers in language classes—has been muted, which explains why this book is in your hands. Learned Writing motivates lawyers to prefer plain language to the legalese and verbosity that have besmirched legal writing for centuries. This book is as sweeping a treatment of its subject as you can find anywhere.

John’s portrait of Jesus is breathtaking yet bewildering. In the first verse he’s called “God.” At the climax of the book he’s worshiped as Lord and God (20:28). On the other hand, he says he can’t do a thing without the okay of his Father (5:19, 30). How are we to understand this profound yet puzzling figure? Uniquely equipped as both a New Testament scholar and engaging pastoral communicator, Randy Rheaume shows how the contrasts in John’s portrait of Jesus (especially his deity and his sonship) fit together and are meaningful and helpful for the Christian life. Is Jesus really God? If so, what difference does it make? How can he be God and yet in submission to God? Why didn’t he ever say, “I am God! Worship me!”? How does the Son’s role differ from the Father’s? If God is more than one person, how do prayer and worship work? How can I know God better? What will make eternity with God so fun that we’ll never get bored? Is the Trinity truly biblical? And where does the Holy Spirit come into the picture? Rheaume’s exploration probes John’s Gospel and provides profound insight into these and related questions.

This work, originally published as one volume in the Peter Lang series, Issues in Systematic Theology, is now available in two volumes. In the first volume, Gary Deddo shows how Barth grasped the nature of relations as intrinsic to the being and act of the Triune God and to God's relations to us and our relationship to God in Christ. Deddo then completes his comprehensive survey showing how Barth saw the reality of the divine relationships analogically pertains, by grace, to humanity and its creaturely relationships. Barth's doctrine of God, Christology, and theological anthropology are all intrinsically onto-relational (to borrow a term coined by Thomas F. Torrance). In the second volume, Deddo shows how Barth's relational theology is intrinsically ethical. As a case study Deddo explicates Barth's ethical teaching on the relationship between parents and children found in section 54 of his chapter on Freedom in Fellowship in CD, III/4. He further demonstrates the relevance and fruitfulness of Barth's theology of relations for critically engaging other theological and non-theological views of the family and for shedding ethical light on a wide range of contemporary issues facing families, especially in the North American context. Karl Barth is known for his insight into the inseparability of act and being in God. What is less recognized is that Barth's theological understanding of dynamic, covenantal relationship is also essential to his doctrine of the Triune God, his Christology and theological anthropology. God is revealed in Jesus Christ to be one in act, being and relation. Humanity is revealed in Jesus Christ to be essentially a unity of act, being and relation. The failure to see the ethical implications of Barth's theology can be traced in large part to the failure to gasp how Barth's understanding of God's being and act is also essentially relational. Deddo's work corrects this oversight and opens up the door to better comprehension of Barth's trinitarian doctrine of God, his Christology, anthropology and ethics.

Most of us seek a fulfilling life. Millions of us seek answers to life’s deeper, more spiritual meaning. But what is that meaning? Where can it be found? How can we know when we find it? Traditional church and Sunday school attendance is down, as parents and children alike question the relevance of religion in their lives. And while sales of books dealing with spirituality are stronger than ever, the Bible—arguably the oldest—still outsells them all. What is it about the Bible that keeps it on top? It isn’t the history lessons, stories, or passages, which sometimes seem contradictory. No, it’s the recurring theme of God’s forgiveness and love for his creation. Author Dr. Sara Ann Lincoln’s BibleAlive: A Guide to Discovering the Ageless Vitality of the Bible for Teachers and Students will help you discover that meaning and message. This workbook will help you find the true spirit of the Bible, the study of which can lead to a more joy-filled, satisfying life. Dr. Lincoln teaches how to learn through questioning as well as covers such topics as major biblical figures and themes and how to know the Bible spiritually. She also provides useful information and tools to use in spiritual growth. BibleAlive: A Guide to Discovering the Ageless Vitality of the Bible for Teachers and Students takes a complex subject and presents it in an easy to understand format. As your spiritual knowledge grows, you’ll find yourself wanting to know more.
