Following the success of the earlier volume, A Farewell to Baker Street, we have another collection of previously unknown Holmes and Watson tales that will excite the interests of readers across the globe - The Baker Street Case-Files. A decade before his death, Dr Watson let it be known that with his passing he wished his nephew, Christopher Henry Watson MD, to be the executor of his will and guardian of all his personal and pecuniary affairs. One of the tasks he sanctioned was that his nephew should use his discretion in selecting for publication some of the three dozen or so cases involving Holmes and Watson which had not already seen the light of day. These seven new stories shed more light on the remarkable talents of Mr Sherlock Holmes. The first in the collection, The Case of the Rondel Dagger, occurred before Holmes and Watson met. The Mile End Mynah Bird is a fascinating tale set in the period beyond The Great War when both men appear reluctant to retire. From the plotting of The Radicant Munificent Society to the hidden message of The Manila Envelope, there is much to entertain and enthrall us. As before, these tales are designed to contribute in some small part to the lasting memory of two extraordinary men who once occupied that setting we have come to know and love as 221B Baker Street. Once again, ‘The game is afoot!’

The most comprehensive publication available to date on the topic, Art and Industry in Early America examines furniture made throughout Rhode Island from the earliest days of the settlement to the late Federal period. This stunning volume features more than 200 illustrations of beautifully constructed and carved objects--including chairs, high chests, bureau tables, and clocks--that demonstrate the superb workmanship and artistic skill of the state's furniture makers. Written by distinguished scholars, the book presents new information on the export trade, patronage, artistic collaboration, and the small-scale shop traditions that defined early Rhode Island craftsmanship. In addition to iconic, stylish pieces from important centers of production like Newport and Providence and by well-known makers such as John Goddard and Samuel and Joseph Rawson, Jr., the catalogue showcases simpler examples made in smaller towns. More than 100 catalogue entries detail marks and inscriptions, bibliography, and provenance and feature many new photographs, encouraging a deeper understanding of this dynamic school of American furniture making.

Canon of Sherlock Holmes (1887-1927) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Unabridged, read by John Telfer 2001 Alec Reid Recordings Traditionally, the canon of Sherlock Holmes consists of the 56 short stories and 4 novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes fans appear to have been the first group to use the term "canon" in this way, distinguishing between Doyle's original works and subsequent works by other authors using the same characters. Volume 1: A Study in Scarlet One of the four novels within the sixty episodes of the Sherlock Holmes canon, A Study in Scarlet(1877) marked the debut of Holmes and his assistant, Dr. Watson, along with their residence at 221 B Baker Street, Inspector Lestrade, and the ragtag band of street urchins Holmes referred to as "the Baker Street Irregulars." Doyle modeled Holmes in part upon the idiosyncrasies of one of his medical school instructors, Dr. Joseph Bell; the literary structure, however, he borrowed from Edgar Allan Poe's stories of Auguste Dupin. The brilliant but eccentric detective, the admiring friend who narrates the story, the cases which are puzzling and fantastic as much as sensationally criminal, the dramatically revealed solution at the end; all these are elaborated from Poe's work. Volume 2: The Sign of Four The great detective's melancholy mood is lifted by the arrival of attractive Mary Morstan at 221B Baker Street. Mary's father vanished ten years ago. Four years later she bagan to receive, annually, a large, lustrous pearl. Now she has had an intriguing invitation to meet her unknown benefactor and urges Holmes and Watson to accompany her. The duo are confronted with a case that includes a wronged woman, a wooden-legged ruffian, hidden treasure, and a love affair. Volume 3: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of 12 stories by Arthur Conan Doyle that were originally published in Strand magazine from July 1891 to June 1892. This collection includes some of Holmes' most famous cases. The 12 stories in this collection are: "A Scandal in Bohemia" "The Red-Headed League" "A Case of Identity" "The Boscombe Valley Mystery" "The Five Orange Pips" "The Man with the Twisted Lip" "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle" "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" "The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb" "The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor" "The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet" "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches" Volume 4: The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes Stories included are: "Silver Blaze" "The Yellow Face" "The Stockbroker's Clerk" "The 'Gloria Scott'" "The Musgrave Ritual" "The Reigate Squire" (not same as in audio book) "The Crooked Man" "The Resident Patient" "The Greek Interpreter" "The Naval Treaty" "The Final Problem" Volume 5: The Hound of the Baskervilles An ancient family curse has caused the shocking death of all of Sir Henry Baskerville's ancestors, and the distinguished Dr. James Mortimer wants Sherlock Holmes to help protect his friend. According to local legend, an enormous, savage, supernatural hound lives on the Grimpen Moor, and has just killed yet another Baskerville. Despite Holmes's well-deserved reputation as a crime specialist and brilliant sleuth, even he wonders whether his powers of deductive reasoning can defeat this mysterious, hellish beast. Volume 6: The Return of Sherlock Holmes Stories included: "The Adventure of the Empty House" (the return of Holmes) "The Adventure of the Norwood Builder" "The Adventure of the Dancing Men" "The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist" "The Adventure of the Priory School" "The Adventure of Black Peter" "The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton" "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons" "The Adventure of the Three Students" "The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez" "The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter" "The Adventure of the Abbey Grange" "The Adventure of the Second Stain" Volume 7: The Valley of Fear An English gentleman is murdered with a uniquely American weapon: a sawed-off shotgun. An indispensable biography of the world’s most famous detective from Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Vincent Starrett In a boarding house at 221B Baker Street, a genius is at work. With the help of his tireless companion, Dr. Watson, the peerless Sherlock Holmes solves one impossible mystery after the next. Many of his adventures, such as “The Hound of the Baskervilles” and “The Red-Headed League,” are world famous, while others, including “The Adventure of the Tired Captain” and “The Singular Affair of the Aluminum Crutch,” remain strictly private, simply because Watson cannot find the time to write them down. This glimpse into the secret case files of England’s greatest detective is just one of the fascinating tidbits included in Vincent Starrett’s landmark book of Sherlockiana. A founding member of the Baker Street Irregulars, Starrett enriches his meticulous research with a true fan’s delight. Whether he is discussing Arthur Conan Doyle’s real-life criminal investigations or detailing the layout of 221B Baker Street and its surrounding neighborhood, Starrett’s deep appreciation for the stories and their inimitable hero is infectious. Countless companion volumes to the series have been published, but none offers as much insight and entertainment as The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes does. This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.
