A collection of the writings of Plato and his Socratic dialogues is essential for any aspiring philosopher. Fortunately, this Stief Books publication contains every work that has been attributed to Plato, both canonical and of dubious authenticity. A majority of the dialogues are translated by classic, albeit dated, translators; Benjamin Jowett and George Burges. Two works, Halcyon and Epigrams are new and original translations by Jake E. Stief. The font is a tad smaller than most publications so that you may have the complete canon of Plato for a cheap price, but it is still legible, and the text is displayed on large pages in a two column format which makes reading easy. There is also supple margin space for note taking. This edition includes a simplified version of the Stephanus Pagination for easy reference (numbers, but no letters). Works included in this book: Euthyphro - Apology - Crito - Phaedo - Gorgias - Protagoras - Charmides - Laches - Lysis - Ion - Hippias Lesser - Hippias Greater - Cratylus - Euthydemus - Meno - Parmenides - Phaedrus - Symposium - Republic - Theatetus - Sophist - Statesman - TImaeus - Critias - Philebus - Laws - Letters - First Alcibiades - Second Alcibiades - Menexenus - Eryxias - Theages - Axiochus - Clitophon - Hipparchus - Rival Lovers - Minos - Epinomis - Definitions - On Justice - On Virtue - Sisyphus - Demodocus - Halcyon - Epigrams

Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) was an English poet, literary critic and philosopher who, with his friend William Wordsworth, was a founder of the Romantic Movement in England and a member of the Lake Poets. He wrote the poems The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan, as well as the major prose work Biographia Literaria. His critical work, especially on Shakespeare, was highly influential, and he helped introduce German idealist philosophy to English-speaking culture. He coined many familiar words and phrases, including suspension of disbelief. He was a major influence on Emerson, and American transcendentalism. Coleridge is one of the most important figures in English poetry. His poems directly and deeply influenced all the major poets of the age. He was known by his contemporaries as a meticulous craftsman who was more rigorous in his careful reworking of his poems than any other poet, and Southey and Wordsworth were dependent on his professional advice.

This carefully crafted ebook: "The Collected Works of Lawrence of Arabia (Unabridged)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Thomas Edward Lawrence (1888-1935) was a British archaeologist, military officer, and diplomat. He was renowned for his liaison role during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign, and the Arab Revolt against Ottoman Turkish rule of 1916-18. The breadth and variety of his activities and associations, and his ability to describe them vividly in writing, earned him international fame as Lawrence of Arabia. Throughout his life, Lawrence was a prolific writer. A large portion of his output was epistolary; he often sent several letters a day. Seven Pillars of Wisdom is an account of his war experiences. In 1919 he had been elected to a seven-year research fellowship at Oxford, providing him with support while he worked on the book. In addition to being a memoir of his experiences during the war, certain parts also serve as essays on military strategy, Arabian culture and geography, and other topics. Lawrence re-wrote Seven Pillars of Wisdom three times; once "blind" after he lost the manuscript while changing trains at Reading railway station. The Mint is a memoir of his experiences as an enlisted man in the Royal Air Force (RAF). It concerns the period following the First World War when Lawrence decided to disappear from public view. He enlisted in RAF under an assumed name, becoming 352087 Aircraftman Ross. The book is a closely observed autobiographical account of his experiences. He worked from a notebook that he kept while enlisted, writing of the daily lives of enlisted men and his desire to be a part of something larger than himself: the Royal Air Force. Table of Contents: Seven Pillars of Wisdom The Mint The Evolution of a Revolt Translations: The Odyssey The Forest Giant Letters (1915-1935)

Classics of Philosophy, 2/e, is the most comprehensive anthology of writings in Western philosophy in print. Spanning 2500 years of thought, it is ideal for introduction to philosophy and history of philosophy courses that are structured chronologically. More than seventy works by forty-two philosophers as well as fragments from the Pre-Socratics are included, offering students and general readers alike an extensive and economical collection of the major works of the Western tradition. This anthology contains the most important writings from Thales to Rawls; seventeen of these are complete works, while the others are judiciously abridged so that little of value to the student is lost. Unabridged works include such classics as Plato's The Apology, Descartes's Meditations on First Philosophy, Leibniz's The Monadology, Hume's An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Kant's Foundation for the Metaphysic of Morals, Mill's Utilitarianism, Russell's A Free Man's Worship, Sartre's Existentialism and Humanism, and Rawls's "Justice as Fairness." A lucid introduction, including a brief biographical sketch, accompanies each of the featured philosophers. Classics of Philosophy, 2/e, provides an extensive view of the most significant stages of growth in Western philosophy, including its birth with the Pre-Socratics as well as its contemporary developments. The second edition includes new selections by Augustine, Berkeley, Hume, Wollstonecraft, Nagel, and Foot.
