The Eagle Owl is one of the largest owls in the world, and is considered the most eclectic in terms of habitat, nest site and diet. An undisputed top predator, it can prey on a range of mammals up to the size of a fox, and almost every species of bird, reptile, amphibian and fish, as well as a wide spectrum of invertebrates. Surprisingly, this owl can breed almost anywhere, the female laying her eggs on a variety of natural and artificial structures over an array of altitudes. Despite being so adaptable, however, it is still a vulnerable species, and has suffered widely from persecution as well as other threats including electrocution on power lines, decreasing prey availability, the effects of pesticides and pollutants, and habitat alteration. Vincenzo Penteriani and María del Mar Delgado have studied this fascinating bird extensively across its vast Eurasian range. In this book, they detail its intriguing ecology, covering distribution, foraging and breeding behaviour, interspecific interactions, dispersal and conservation issues. The final two chapters provide a remarkable insight into vocal and visual communication. Scientists have long believed that owls and other crepuscular and nocturnal birds forgo the visual signals found in other avian species, but recent research on the Eagle Owl has suggested otherwise. Bringing together more than 30 years of research, The Eagle Owl tells a story rich in detail of one of the most thrilling and magnificent birds in the world.

This comprehensive history traces the evolution of Eagle-Picher Industries, a manufacturing firm based in Cincinnati, Ohio, for almost 150 years. Focusing on events prior to the company's involvement in toxic tort litigation, which forced it to file bankruptcy, this work examines Eagle-Picher's development as a diversified industrial manufacturer. From a closely held, regional producer of white lead and other paint pigments, Eagle-Picher became an important miner and processor of non-ferrous metals by investing in zinc-lead fields in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma during the early twentieth century. Once ore reserves in these areas were depleted, the company turned to manufacturing industrial goods and pursued an aggressive and unique expansion and diversification program during the post-World War II era. During the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, Eagle-Picher acquired over twenty-five firms, all manufacturers of industrial goods, and assembled a broadly based specialized productive capacity. Eagle-Picher's history illustrates a number of important trends and concepts. First, its experiences in the late nineteenth century provide a valuable look at how smaller firms adapted to the forces of consolidation in the economy. Further, Eagle-Picher's experience as an industrial manufacturer demonstrates the ways in which mid-sized firms grew by focusing on market niches overlooked by larger firms. Finally, Eagle-Picher's approach to acquisition and diversification is unique in today's competitive marketplace. Eagle-Picher's commitment to limited diversification built around historical strengths, its acquisition of successful firms, and its efforts to establish strong lines of communication and effective controls between the central office and the divisions stand in stark contrast to the efforts of many acquisitive firms during recent mergers.

Clay Bronson is a product of the nineteenth century, half white, half Cheyenne, neither fitting into the fast pace of the twenty first century. As an ex-Navy fighter pilot, he returns to his roots in the Big Horns of Wyoming where he joins his Father and Brother on the rodeo circuit. Then one day their plane develops engine trouble and they make a forced landing in New Mexico where they find their counter parts on a Spanish Land Grant. This is where the story begins, as they follow the path of the Eagle, as they fly toward their destiny. About the Author J. D. Oliver highlights the struggle between good and evil in all his work, whether it is novels or the Cowboy Poetry he writes and performs. History, incredible knowledge of the world and the type of people who inhabit it are all present in his work. J. D. was born in Montana, where his roots go back to the early 1800's. Both sets of his grandparents homesteaded in Montana; on his mother's side, on a dry land wheat farm in Central Montana, Highwood to be exact. On his father's side it was on a cattle ranch in south central Montana, in the little town of Edgar, where he went to school with the Crow Indian children from Pryor, Montana. He traveled widely in the Navy and worked in the logging industry as well as an Operating Engineer, building roads and dams. However he always came back to the homestead during winter to help feed cattle with his Dad. J. D. is married with two children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In the Eagle’s Way: The Importance of Love in Healthcare, the author, a general practitioner, looks back at the changes he has seen over fifty years of study and practice of medicine. Remarkable advances in medicine and surgery have been accompanied by the growth of alternative medicine. He sees the emergence of holistic/integrative medicine as an important development in the evolution of healthcare. In this guide, he explores the principles and philosophies of alternative medicine and its complementary relationship with traditional medicine. The underlying principle of orthodox medicine is fighting disease; in contrast, the underlying principle of alternative medicine is embracing disease, an approach consistent with the new paradigm of unity. Both principles are varied yet powerful. He believes that maintenance of scientific standards dictates that most alternative therapies will remain outside the parameters of orthodox medicine but will be complementary to it. Conventional medicine is intellectual, sensory, head-based, and extraverted in its approach, whereas alternative medicine, especially the new psychotherapies, tends to be intuitive, heartbased, and introverted. The latter tends to go with the flow rather than have set standards of treatment. Practitioners of holistic and integrative medicine using both systems are often viewed as the healers of the future. While both systems can offer help to the patient, the most powerful force in healing remains unconditional love in the form of nonjudgmental respect, care, trust, and compassion. Dr. Johnston presents this as the central core of holistic and integrative medicine in The Eagle’s Way.

World War II gripped Poland as it did no other country. Invaded by Germany and the USSR, it was occupied from the first day of war to the last, and then endured 44 years behind the Iron Curtain while its wartime partners celebrated their freedom. The Eagle Unbowed tells, for the first time, the story of Poland’s war in its entirety and complexity.
