Most Christians are living a distorted Christian life. You don't have to be one of them. Imagine a church where 84% of Christians are completely unfamiliar with the essential tenets of their faith, with a crippling misunderstanding of the word righteousness and, in turn, the gospel of Jesus. According to a recent survey conducted by Chris Seay and Barna Research Group, this is not just speculation; it's the reality for the church today. The Gospel According to Jesus takes an in-depth look at this research study, which examines our understanding of the command, "Seek first the kingdom and His righteousness." Most Christians define righteousness as morality. This means that what's being preached by the church is not at all the gospel Jesus intended for His followers. Through personal stories, interviews with today's church leaders, and a detailed study of the book of Romans, Chris uncovers a staggering disconnect between the gospel according to Christians and the gospel according to Jesus--the redeeming, restorative gospel that a broken world so desperately needs. Our role, he says, is to join Jesus in restoring the world. Will you?

A wry, fictional account of the life of Christ by the 1998 Nobel laureate in literature “Illuminated by ferocious wit, gentle passion, and poetry.” — Los Angeles Times Book Review For José Saramago, the life of Jesus Christ and the story of his Passion were things of this earth: a child crying, a gust of wind, the caress of a woman half asleep, the bleat of a goat or the bark of a dog, a prayer uttered in the grayish morning light. The Holy Family reflects the real complexities of any family, but this is realism filled with vision, dream, and omen. Saramago’s deft psychological portrait of a savior who is at once the Son of God and a young man of this earth is an expert interweaving of poetry and irony, spirituality and irreverence. The result is nothing less than a brilliant skeptic’s wry inquest into the meaning of God and of human existence.

If you know me in your heart, you embody my teaching with an inner certainty. You know that love is the only answer to your problems. When you give love you cannot help but receive it. Indeed, the more you give, the more you receive. There is no deficiency of love in the world. Love lives in the heart of every human being. If it is trusted, it has the power to uplift consciousness and change the conditions under which you live. Love is ultimate reality. It is the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega. It emanates from itself, expresses itself and rests in itself. Whether rising or falling, waxing or waning, ebbing or flowing, it never loses touch with what it is. I may not be present here in a body, but I am present in your love. When you find the love in your heart, you know that I am with you. It is that simple.

From Bible teacher John MacArthur, a revelatory exploration of what the apostle Paul actually taught about the Good News of Jesus. The apostle Paul penned a number of very concise, focused passages in his letters to the early church that summarize the gospel message in just a few well-chosen words. Each of these key texts has a unique emphasis highlighting some essential aspect of the Good News of Jesus Christ. The chapters in this revelatory new book closely examine those vital gospel texts, one verse at a time. John MacArthur, host of the popular media ministry Grace to You, tackles such questions as: What is the gospel? What are the essential elements of the message? How can we be certain we have it right? And how should Christians be proclaiming the Good News to the world? As always, the answers John MacArthur gives are clear, compelling, well-reasoned, easy to grasp, and above all, thoroughly biblical. The Gospel According to Paul is written in a style that is easily accessible to lay people, including those who know very little about the Bible, while being of great value to seasoned pastors and experienced ministers. The Gospel According to Paul is the third in a series of books on the gospel by John MacArthur including - The Gospel According to Jesus and The Gospel According to the Apostles. The Gospel According to Paul is also available in Spanish, Evangelio según Pablo.

The author describes how as a high school student, he first met the "scientific approach to the study of the Gospels" and learned that the Gospel of St. Matthew was copied from an "older" document called "Q." The question arose: if Matthew was a disciple of Jesus, why would he need another document to write about Jesus? A life-long struggle to answer that question resulted in the development of this new Interpretation. Matthew was a trained tax accountant. Taxation is all about keeping records and diaries. Jesus called Matthew to be a disciple. Matthew did what he knew best keeping records and diaries as directed by Jesus. Analyzing its contents using principles of information assurance, Mano concludes that this gospel is in two parts. The first nine chapters happened before the call of Matthew, and the source of data is Jesus. After chapter ten, Matthew is the source of data. He recorded events as indicated by Jesus, including events after the arrest. This is the justification for calling it an authorized biography of Jesus Christ. The Ascension is omitted. That significant omission proves that this gospel was not written by a later Christian believer or organization, but happened because Matthew ceased his diaries before the Ascension. These diaries were obtained by Christians many years later and recognized as a gospel.

Christianity is in crisis. We live in a time when millions of people profoundly misunderstand the message of the Gospel. They believe that being a Christian means little more than being a nice person. They view Jesus as a wise moral teacher who showed us how to live better lives, and they conclude that the love of humanity is our greatest cause and its progress our primary purpose. Whatever else may be said of this view of Christianity, it is certainly not what Jesus taught. It is an attempt to replace the concepts of sin, redemption, and salvation with the more socially acceptable virtues of tolerance, compassion, and social progress. It elevates humanity and the world above God and his kingdom and reduces Jesus to a mere moral philosopher. But who did Jesus say he was? What was the essential message of Christ? The Gospel According to Christ answers those questions by examining the words of Jesus, in their context and in their entirety. The answers will be shocking to many Christians.

What did Jesus Christ really teach? What were the very basics? What did he say about current issues facing both modern Christianity as well as the rest of the world today? The teachings of Christ were in many ways quite different from much of what we see in current-day practicing forms of Christianity. If one considers what Christ taught apart from what is claimed by much of Christian-based organized religion today, one may very well reach very different conclusions from what is preached to us in this day and age regarding many issues of morality, dogma, and what is expected of a good Christian. From decades of historic, scholarly, linguistic, and dedicated research that includes some of the most renowned and established expert sources in respective fields of study, this work focuses on what Christ actually taught, who he really was, and why he matters in modern times - while analyzing some surprising conclusions to many current-day fundamental questions as: * Why might Christ disagree with stringent religious views on premarital sex and chastity rings? * Who can we trust in regards to a personal faith in a world of religious information overload? * What did Jesus say about homosexuality that directly refutes modern-day pious viewpoints? * How can we be expected to love our enemies, to forgive, and to turn the other cheek? * What is so different between the teachings of Christ in comparison to other philosophies? * What would Jesus say about present forms of Christian fundamentalism? * How do we know whether Jesus was the prophesied-about Messiah of Judaism? * What does it mean to have a sincere belief in God as Christ defined it? * What would Christ say about modern cults and religious control freaks? * Who was Jesus Christ as a man, and why should we even care? * What would Christ say about those that might not believe? * How reliable is the modern Bible to its original manuscripts? * What did Christ say about the end times? * Who - or what - is the word of God? The Gospel According to Christ is for both believer and non-believer alike, and simplifies the Gospel of Christ into its core elements as based on the teachings of Jesus alone - and this completely apart from those things that organized religion may vehemently preach at the world today. The result is an eye-opening and easy read that clears up many gray areas surrounding the subject of who Christ was, what he taught, and how his modern-day followers compare to his own teachings as based on a very simple faith that is not dependent on popular opinions, disproportional admonitions, nor religious domination. This work brings the sheer simplicity of Christ into focus - while thoroughly answering some of the more difficult questions surrounding both him and his teachings - to the forefront of the 21st Century.

THE STORY OF JESUS: AN INTUITIVE ANTHOLOGY Many contemporary Christians suspect that there is more to Jesus and his enduring message than the little that has survived in historical writings and the legendary Christian tradition. This book offers a narrative account of Jesus' life from the perspective of twenty contemporary writers who have developed their natural intuitive abilities to an unusually high level. They are therefore able to bring forth new and detailed information not ordinarily accessible by his¬tor¬ical or literary means. Some of them had demonstrated their unusual skill by probing deep¬ly into the personal lives and minds of historical individuals other than Jesus, while some had provided important and detailed technical infor¬mation which was then verified scien¬tifically. They¬ apply their intuitive skills here to uncover fresh information about the man Jesus, his contemporaries and his extensive teachings which never found their way into the New Test¬ament Gospels and related historical documents. These new findings offer a much richer view of the man himself than that available from traditional Christian sources. They also provide illumi¬nating insights and a deep spiritual under¬standing of Jesus' original and hidden teach¬ings. The Story of Jesus is essential reading for all inquirers and seekers into these hidden and previously lost portions of Christian spiritual history.

This book offers a detailed analysis of the Gospel of Thomas in its historic and literary context, providing a new understanding of the genesis of the Jesus tradition. Discovered in the twentieth century, the non-canonical Gospel of Thomas is an important early text whose origins and place in the history of Christianity continue to be subjects of debate. Aiming to relocate the Thomasine community in the wider context of early Christianity, this study considers the Gospel of Thomas as a bridge between the oral and literary phases of the Christian movement. It will therefore, be useful for Religion scholars working on Biblical studies, Coptic codices, gnosticism and early Christianity.

Young and Strickland analyze the four largest discourses of Jesus in Mark in the context of Greco-Roman rhetoric in an attempt to hear them as a first-century audience would have heard them. The authors demonstrate that, contrary to what some historical critics have suggested, first-century audiences of Mark would have found the discourses of Jesus unified, well-integrated, and persuasive. They also show how these speeches of the Markan Jesus contribute to Mark‘s overall narrative accomplishments.

This book offers a new interpretation and transmission history of the Pericope Adulterae, arguing that the an interpolator placed the story at John 7.53-8.11 in order to highlight the claim that Jesus could write (John 8.6, 8) in light of a careful reading of John's Gospel.
