Karl Heinrich Marx was a German philosopher, economist, historian, sociologist, political theorist, journalist and socialist revolutionary. It is hard to think of many who have had as much influence in the creation of the modern world. In addition to his overtly philosophical early work, his later writings have many points of contact with contemporary philosophical debates, especially in the philosophy of history and the social sciences, and in moral and political philosophy. Historical materialism — Marx’s theory of history — is centered around the idea that forms of society rise and fall as they further and then impede the development of human productive power. Marx’s economic analysis of capitalism is based on his version of the labour theory of value, and includes the analysis of capitalist profit as the extraction of surplus value from the exploited proletariat. Marx sees the historical process as proceeding through a necessary series of modes of production, characterized by class struggle, culminating in communism.

The unabridged versions of these definitive works are now available together as a highly designed paperback with flaps with a new introduction by Robert Weick. Part of the Knickerbocker Classics series, a modern design makes this timeless book a perfect travel companion. Considered to be one of the most influential political writings, The Communist Manifesto is as relevant today as when it was originally published. This pamphlet by the German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, published in 1884 as revolutions were erupting across Europe, discusses class struggles and the problems of a capitalist society. After being exiled to London, Marx published the first part of Das Kapital, a theoretical text that argues that capitalism will create greater and greater division in wealth and welfare and ultimately be replaced by a system of common ownership of the means of production. After Marx's death, Engels completed and published the second and third parts from his colleague's notes. The Knickerbocker Classics bring together the essential works of classic authors from around the world in stunning editions to be collected and enjoyed.

The Communist Manifesto is one of the most influential political books in the world, despite being over one hundred years old. German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels authored the manuscript at the beginning of the 1848 revolutions that swept across Europe. The book outlines Communist theories about class struggle, the problems of capitalism, and predicts the rise of the working class (referred to as the proletariat) against the bourgeois that will ultimately end class society. Marx and Engels' theories increased in prevalence during the twentieth century when Communist rulers governed much of the world's population. This is an unabridged version of Samuel Moore's 1888 English translation.

The poetic manifesto has a long, rich history that hasn't been updated until now. What does a poetic manifesto look like in a time of increased pluralism, relativism, and danger? How can a manifesto open a space for new and diverse voices? Forty-five poets at different stages of their careers contribute to this new anthology, demonstrating the relevance of the declarative form at the intersection of aesthetics and politics. The contributors also have chosen their own poems to accompany their manifestos-an anthologizing act that poets are never permitted. Invaluable for writers at any stage in their careers, this anthology may be especially useful for teachers of creative writing, both undergraduate and graduate. Poets include: Lisa Ampleman, Sandra Beasley, Sean Bishop, Susan Briante, Stephen Burt, Jen Campbell, Kara Candito, Bruce Cohen, Erica Dawson, Sean Thomas Dougherty, Jehanne Dubrow, Rebecca Morgan Frank, Elisa Gabbert, Hannah Gamble, Noah Eli Gordon, David Groff, Cynthia Hogue, Doyali Farah Islam, Genevieve Kaplan, Vandana Khanna, Matthew Lippman, Beth Loffreda, Cecilia Llompart, Randall Mann, Corey Marks, Joyelle McSweeney, Erika Meitner, Orlando Menes, Susan Laughter Meyers, Jennifer Militello, Tyler Mills, Jacqueline Osherow, Emilia Phillips, Kevin Prufer, Claudia Rankine, Joshua Robbins, Kathleen Rooney, Zach Savich, Jeffrey Schultz, Martha Silano, Sean Singer, Marcela Sulak, Maureen Thorson, Afaa Weaver, Jillian Weise, Valerie Wetlaufer, and Rachel Zucker.

'An astonishing masterpiece ... a political classic ... has an almost biblical force' Eric Hobsbawm The Communist Manifesto, Marx and Engels' revolutionary 1848 summons to the working classes, is one of the most influential political theories ever formulated. After four years of collaboration, the authors produced this incisive account of their idea of Communism, in which they envisage a society without classes, private property or a state. They argue that increasing exploitation of industrial workers will eventually lead to a revolution in which capitalism is overthrown. Their vision transformed the world irrevocably, and remains relevant as a depiction of global capitalism today. Edited with an Introduction by GARETH STEDMAN JONES

SO, YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT 'DEMOCRACY' MEANS? The word 'democracy' is widely abused and 'defined' incorrectly. This eye-opening book explains exactly what the word democracy really implies. It demonstrates just how illegal the current situation is, adversely affecting the lives and livelihood of nearly all men and women today. DEMOCRACY DEFINED has been comprehensively researched and sheds light on how the repression of definitive democracy leads to a variety of far-reaching adverse effects, including political assassinations; fraudulent banking practices; and the unconstitutional denial of national issuance of interest-free currency and credit. The book also exposes the aetiology of anti-Semitism. SEE BACK COVER for REVIEWS of the essays on which this book is based. This book gives citizens all the facts they require to appreciate how and why the current system is wrong and sets out what We the People can do to rectify it. The contents of DEMOCRACY DEFINED: "The Manifesto" are enriched by the fascinating quoted wisdom and words of great minds - Churchill, Gibbon, Hale, Hallam, Hume, Blackstone, Crabbe, Millar, Mackintosh, Gilbert, Palgrave, Coke et al., chief justices, judges, Benjamin Franklin, Presidents Kennedy, Roosevelt, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Washington, Lincoln. This extensively researched book is enlightening - it reveals in irrefutable detail how far the modern political establishment and justice system have strayed from the prescribed lawful modus operandi. While establishing evidence for the legal case against governments' statism, THE MANIFESTO also gives readers inspiration and hope by showing "how" it is easily possible to reverse the decline and make mankind's ideal society achievable: the best of all possible worlds.
