It can take losing everything to realize what you had all along. Up-and-coming London chef Marcus Vine is poised on the edge of success, but the only men courting him are investors. That leaves Marcus with some free time--which is fortunate, because his godchildren need him. A year ago, a horrible accident killed Marcus's best friend, Raine, leaving her children without a mother and her husband, Tom, without a partner. Consumed by grief, Tom has been going it alone, refusing help, but when Marcus sees him out with the children, it's obvious that Tom and his two daughters need someone. His persistent caring finally wears Tom down, allowing him to accept the comfort Marcus offers. Soon Marcus is up to his elbows in homework, home-cooked meals, and after-school activities. Over time he helps them rebuild their world, until soon their lives are approaching normal. Then the unexpected happens: Tom confesses he has romantic feelings for Marcus, and nothing can ever be the same.

The Missing Ingredient is about what makes good food, and the first book to consider the intrinsic yet often forgotten role of time in creating the flavours and textures we love. Written through a series of encounters with ingredients, producers, cooks, shopkeepers and chefs, exploring everything from the brief period in which sugar caramelises, or the days required in the crucial process of fermentation, to the months of slow ripening and close attention that make a great cheddar, or the years needed for certain wines to reach their peak, Jenny Linford shows how, time and again, time itself is the invisible ingredient. From the patience and dedication of many food producers in fields and storehouses around the world to the rapid reactions required of any home cook at the hob, this book allows us to better understand our culinary lives.

For years, Apostle Frederick K. C. Price wanted nothing more than to serve Jesus fully. Like many, he thought he had received all that God had to give when he accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord. Still, there was something missing in his life, and he wasn't sure what it was. His search to find that missing ingredient led him to the baptism with the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit who revolutionized his Christian life has prompted Apostle Price to tell what "great things the Lord has done" since those early years of his ministry. His story will stir in you the same hunger to find the joy, victory, and power still available today through the Holy Spirit.

How can you become a more successful manager, a stronger team leader and a motivator who gets the best results from a group? Ken Blanchard's inspiring new book provides the answer. In a beguiling, sometimes humorous fashion, THE LEADERSHIP PILL conjures up a tantalizing possibility: What if there was a pill that could stimulate the natural powers of the mind and body to provide leadership? In the story, an amazing new pill heightens one leader's powers, but contains the wrong ingredients, stimulating him in a short-sighted direction. He is coercive, obsessed with immediate results and drives his team relentlessly until, after a brief spike in performance, they suffer early burnout. In contrast, the 'Effective Leader', working without a pill, inspires and supports his team. He supplies the right ingredients, earning the respect and trust of his team with a blend of integrity, partnership and affirmation. Ultimately it is recognised that there is more to effective leadership than a wonder 'pill'. Destined to be a transforming experience for thousands of readers, THE LEADERSHIP PILL shows how to apply the right techniques, no matter how pressured a business situation.

Why do so many Christians seem to struggle from one defeat to the next, never really experiencing the abundant life God has for them? The answer is no mystery. In fact, author Michael Cameneti points us directly to the answer declared clearly by God Himself throughout His Word: The missing ingredient that most people lack is the fear of the Lord. Just how important is the fear of the Lord to our ultimate success in life? Michael gives it to us straight, "If we choose to forsake the fear of God, we are on our own in life, relegated to making decisions and going through the trials of life without His help." He goes on to conclude, "The stakes couldn't be higher ... for whether or not you walk in the fear of God is a decision that will determine the outcome of your life." So what do you choose for your life? A never-ending cycle of defeat and discouragement as you try to navigate through life's storms using your own limited resources? Or a brand-new commitment to learn how to walk in the fear of the Lord? If you choose the latter, you have just embarked on a new kind of journey -- one in which you are never a loser; never left without divine guidance and help; and always moving forward toward the glorious destination God has planned just for you! When you look at the current state of affairs when it comes to Bibles, things can get a little confusing. There's a whole lot of stuff out there designed to help you find the 'missing meaning' in the Bible. Sometimes this comes in the form of a plethora of different Bible translations. Other times there's a never ending supply of Bible study books written by experts. Not to mention that there are a huge number of Bible commentaries and even books about special codes and hidden knowledge in the Bible. The problem with all of these things is the fact that there never seems to be any real satisfying answers in any of them. I myself am part of a Bible study that's been active for over forty years and many people don't do the lessons any more. We all know that the Bible is missing something; that's why people like you and I are still looking for whatever that 'missing ingredient' is.Christian book publishers know that there's something missing in the Bible. That's why they keep publishing new translations and new Bible studies. I myself have fallen into this routine. At one time I had over a dozen English translations of the Bible on my shelf. The implication of all this is that we all know that there's something missing, but nothing out there seems to fit the bill. No matter how hard we try or how extensively we look, the resources that we currently have at our fingertips doesn't satisfy our hunger for the word of God.People like ourselves just keep pressing on like we're eventually going to find what it is that we don't know that we've been missing. We know that we're missing something, the Bible publishers know we're missing something; but we keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results.Let's just face the problem head-on shall we. The Bible is hard to understand. Our almost unlimited access to different Bible translations, study materials, and cleverly written books haven't solved the problem. Try as we might; there never seems to be any end to our search for whatever it is that is missing. We need to do something different. Instead of writing endless new Bible studies, or commentaries; what we need is for someone to look more closely at the source material of the Bible itself to see what is in the Original Greek New Testament; that's not in our English translations. I am one of the few people who can do that.Usually when people have done this in the past, they write a Bible commentary or a Bible study about it which we have already concluded hasn't done the trick. What we actually need is for someone to just translate the Bible with the missing ingredients in the actual English translation itself instead of trying to include all the missing ingredients in footnotes or commentaries.I brought up this subject when I was in seminary, learning Greek. I asked, "Hey if that's what it actually means then why doesn't somebody just translate it that way?"The answer I got was both distressing and predictable, "We've always just done it that way." Was the answer I got.Well this book is the beginning of doing it the right way. Since discovering what's in the Greek New Testament that's not in an English translation is something that I can do; I'm just going to translate it that way.But that still leaves us with one glaring question. Just how much are we missing in our English translations?

This paper examines if internal migrants at the turn of the 20th century have influenced the long-term economic development of the counties where they settled over 100 years ago. Using Census microdata from 1880 and 1910, the distance travelled by American-born migrants between birthplace and county of residence is examined to assess its relevance for the economic development of US counties today. The settlement patterns of domestic migrants across the 48 continental states are then linked to current county-level development. Factors influencing both migration at the time and the level of development of the county today are controlled for. The results of the analysis underline the economic importance of internal migration. Counties that attracted American-born migrants more than 100 years ago are significantly richer today. Moreover, distance is crucial for the impact of internal migration on long-term economic development; the larger the distance travelled by domestic migrants, the greater the long-term economic impact on the receiving territories.

The ethics, sustainability and health impact of food systems are growing concerns in the USA and many other countries. Public History and the Food Movement argues that todays broad interest in making food systems fairer, healthier, and more sustainable offers a compelling opportunity for the public history field. Moon and Stanton argue that linking heritage institutions unique communicative skills with contemporary food issues can offer accessible points of entry for the public into broad questions about human and environmental resilience. Equally importantly, it is suggested that such an approach can offer institutions themselves valuable lifelines of new audiences, partners, and sources of support at a time when many are struggling to remain relevant, viable, and solvent. Detailed interviews with public history professionals, authors, farmers, NGO workers, and others offer insightful additional perspectives. Written by two experienced public history practitioners and drawing on both practical experience and academic scholarship, Public History and the Food Movement engages directly with contemporary food politics to offer a toolkit for engagement on the topic, challenging history practitioners to claim an expanded role for themselves in contemporary food politics. In demonstrating how public historians can engage with a topical issue while remaining true to the guiding principles of historical research and interpretation, it also offers a transferable blueprint for public history professionals looking to engage with other topical issues.
